The onset of Donald Trump's presidency saw a sharp decline in international tourism to the United States, as his embarrassing blunders and repugnant behavior have lowered the nation's standing around the world.

U.S. tourism officials had been fretting about the possible ‘Trump Slump’ all year, and now government data has confirmed their worst fears: International tourism plummeted during the first three months of 2017.

And that sharp decline has cost the industry, and the U.S. economy as a whole, billions in lost spending.

“New figures released by the U.S. Department of Commerce show a drop in international visitors to the United States by close to 700,000 in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the previous year,” the New York Times reports. “European countries were down 10.1 percent, and Mexico was off 7.1 percent in the quarter.”

That immediate decline represents a loss of nearly $2.7 billion in spending, according to one analyst’s estimate.......................

For just one among hundreds of examples, John Kerry was explaining in that Rolling Stone interview that the alternative energy industry is exploding in size, but now other nations and businesses are looking to non-American manufacturers because we pulled out of the Paris accord.

Under Hillary we would have continued to lead the world. She had planned to have nearly half a billion solar panels on our own roofs by 2020.

Ironic isn't it. Well now that he's cut Bannon loose maybe he can start working on his image problem and lose some of the nuttier positions.

Right after he gets past calling Kim Jong Un "Rocket Man," threatening to destroy North Korea and threatening to pull out of the Iran nuclear deal. Now the nuttiness can stop?

I'm one of those who have chosen to avoid America until Trump will out.

It is ironic, this is the second time I postpone a travel to your country. Believe me, it makes me fume !

The first time was in 2001. All was set, our travel was set on 14 september. It took us months to prepare our travel because we planned to stay 3 months. We wanted to have enough time to visit as much as we could in the best conditions. We had to take arrangements as well in our jobs as in our private life.

Last year, before the elections, it was not finalized as the first travel but close.

One of my sons has a degree in computer sciences. He wanted to pursue an MBA in international management. He was looking to apply to a good American university.

We thought about one month to visit the universities he selected before he chose the one he wanted.

He loves America and want to live there but since Trump became president, he changed his mind and moved to Great Britain. He works and study there.

To be honest, I was relieved since Trump really scares me.

Maybe later when he will out the WH. But I'm not sure.

My son enjoys his life in GB. He still thinks to move oversea but he is more attracted by Canada now.

This is how a stupid president lose educated people who could brought a real value to the country.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that the next time is it will the good one.

Just please allow me to wait until the devastating non-natural disaster had quit the WH.

I usually spend 6 to 7 weeks in the USA in the summer, and she usually accompanies me for most of it. This time, after a vacation in Massachusetts, she left right back for home. I went to Colorado, Texas and Washington because I had work and family-related stuff to do, but this time, she said she was not leaving the state of Massachusetts, and indeed she didn't.

The USA didn't lose a fortune by her early departure alone, but she is one of hundreds of thousands who either cut their visits short or didn't come at all.

Am considering spending next summer's vacation in Newfoundland instead of New England. Will see how our family likes Gros Morne and L'Anse aux Meadows if we choose to take an adventure.
