They who depend so much money on their cruise line here could give back and let the people of Porto Rico get things back together? Hey cruise line guys, don;t you think that that would do good for the image of this?

Anyway, what would they do with the ships, exactly? Puerto Rico has more than 3.5 million residents. How many cruise ships would they need to dock in order to... Do what with them, exactly?

(51,311 posts)they have other itineraries for which other people have paid. There is no damage to the image or reputation of any cruise line.
Do private-business grocery companies donate food? Do private-business construction companies re-build for free? You see my point.
Oh, and I've never been on a cruise, so I have no dog in this hunt.

(5,857 posts)Amheiser Busch in Katrina stopped production on canned beer for 2 weeks to make canned water, they did the same for Harvey. Walmart is donating $2 for every $1 donated to ARC, as well as using their logistical capabilities to move supplies. In fact Wal-mart game plans this every hurricane season with FEMA and state emergency managers.

(6,110 posts)After a large hurricane anywhere, it is dangerous to shipping until the harbors and channels can be inspected and cleared. Typically they are strewn with debris and sunken boats that had broken their moorings. Channel markers and buoys could be missing. Even the channels themselves could be missing or require dredging. It just may not be safe for a few days.
Cruise ships were used at the smaller islands after Irma, so I expect they will be a small part of the relief soon in Puerto Rico, probably helping ferry people to CONUS.

(17,615 posts)..also they are filled with crystal and china and basically are 4 star hotels. The security would be immense just to prevent the looting. Also I don't think any cruise ship is empty this time of year. But good suggestion....maybe the Coast Guard can get some help there soon..

(55,445 posts)1. Where would cruise ships take the residents? Miami? What if the residents don't have any family/friends in Miami and no $$ for a hotel? What if they want to go to Boston or New York instead? Should those requests be accommodated?
2. Why would a bunch of ocean liners clog up the port and trafficway when there are still essential equipment, supplies and personnel being shipped in?

(27,555 posts)Not to mention almost all port in Florida. Not to mention there is also still a massive storm between Florida and Puerto Rico.
Why is it just Cruise ships? Airlines take massive advantage on pricing to islands like Puerto Rico? Many, many corporations do the same. But yeah, most are not in the disaster business and hopefully many of them, at least, will donate to the appropriate NGOs.
