Aside from which, they know that most of the people they see every day are going to suffer eternal punishment.
So basically you have people who will be forgiven for whatever wrong they do, confident in the knowledge that they'll be blessed while most everyone else is damned.
It's called "Joy".

And this attitude pleases another part of the republican party - the ones who have or support businesses that pollute to excess but don't necessarily believe Jesus is about to come back.

We have enough problems without making shit up. As for Trump? I could see him using this to his advantage. Let's hope not. But it wouldn't surprise me, not when the leader of NK sounds more rational than his American counterpart. No, nothing would surprise me at this point.
Although I keep saying that--won't surprise me--while still being shocked by current events. The world really has been turned upside down.
