Crazy Maine lady: I would lay down my life for Donald Trump!

A beleaguered code enforcement officer is trying to get a Trump-loving lady to take down her oversize signs. Now he's getting threatening phone calls. (This is just one town away from me):

“I try to go as straight ahead as possible,” Butler said in an interview, one of many he’s given to the media this week. “I look at what the code says and stick to the code and not try to get off on too many tangents.”

Meaning he has no personal or political beef with Susan Reitman, whose home on dead-end Seavey Lane is adorned with two large signs: “I (red, white and blue heart) Donald Trump” and “He Won … Get Over It!”

Butler wants Reitman to take down the signs – but not because they’re too pro-Trump. They’re too big.

The problem is, Reitman’s not budging. “Look, I’m a 75-year-old widow living on a fixed income,” Reitman said in a telephone interview from her home. “There is no way I could ever pay that $100-a-day or that $1,000-a-day fine. He can put a lien on my house – I have two mortgages. He can take my house. He can put me in jail or whatever. To me it’s the principle of the thing, you know?”‘

However, the rules of her little corner of the world are the rules. Letting Ms. Reiman's signs remain up means that others will want the same variance and consideration. Others might not be content with just a 2x3 foot sign. Does the code blink at a 2x4 foot sign? What about a 10x20 foot sign?

I know that if the subject of Ms. Reiman's signs was different (say, in favor of tolerance or some liberal value), the response from our good friends on the right would be, "Why does she think she's above the law?", "Lock her up!" or "What part of 'illegal' has her baffled?" I'm in favor of going high when others go low, but in this instance, the very nature of the neighborhood and the features that attracted people to want to move and live there stands to be compromised, and a sign war might well break out.

She can take the down her signs as easily as she put them up.

We don't allow billboards anywhere in the state.

She can replace them with smaller signs, as the code officer pointed out. She's just too tied to her weird Trump worship that she considers the mere request to follow the law as an attack on her hero.

It would be great if everyone on her street posted signs with the suggested alternative: "Elect a Clown, Get a Circus."

75? Fixed income? You better be paying attention to your health care instead of signs telling the world how limited you are.

At the risk of offending some of DU's irreligious posters, Ms. Reitman can start forming her search parameters for a righteous man by looking through the Book of Proverbs and then contemplating how possible candidates measure up.

If she is fearless and thorough, Donnie won't make the cut.

It just amazes me how some people are so loyal to politicians who wouldn't even piss on them if they were on fire. She is a complete nobody to Trump and she worships the ground he walks on.
