... courted? With McCain, Paul and Collins all no's?
And last time around, which of these 4 voted 'no,' so that McCain saved the day?
I must be counting something wrong. Please help.

(82,849 posts)But Paul, Collins, and Murkowski haven't issued definite "No, I'm not voting for this lousy bill" statements (at least not that I've seen). Last time around, Collins and Murkowski came out as "no" very early, and McCain, ever the aficionado and hero of his own personal drama, waited until the last possible second to register his "no" vote.
Republican leadership is trying to bribe Murkowski by saying that Alaska can stay with the Affordable Care Act, but you have to throw the rest of the country under the bus. The bribe doesn't really make sense, since if this latest bill goes down, Alaska keeps its ACA program anyway. It's just whether Murkowski decides the rest of the country can go to hell so long as Alaska is taken care of. Not an attractive offer.
Paul say he won't be bullied, but his career is chock full of brave words followed by craven actions. The slightest change in the political winds will be enough to swing the weatherrand in a completely different direction.
I don't know what Collins is up to. Her early "no" last time around may have consigned her to the sidelines, and she craves a little spotlight this time around?

(59,475 posts)First of all, she already gave a crucial no on the "skinny repeal" -- so she will be attacked for that even if she is a yes on this. From all her past positions, this is not what she would want for her Senate legacy -- which it would be.
I realize that this could cost her a Republican general election to someone far to her right, but remember in Maine. However, I would imagine she would likely win the nomination and if she lost she could run as an independent - as King did. I doubt she could win the general election if she is the person who killed ACA and harmed Medicaid.
Anyone from Maine want to comment on the likely impact on a potential Governor's race.

(51,432 posts)A lot can happen in that time. The mega rich donors want what they already paid for...TAX CUTS! They are really pressuring the GOP (Joy Reid said that she heard this from GOP insiders yesterday). MONEY TALKS and it is the language of the GOP. They still have a week to buy off senators' votes using the money from the blue states to buy votes from the red state senators. Stay vigilant and keep calling until til Oct. 1st. Only then will we be able to breath a sigh of relief. DO NOT TRUST THEM! Call (202)224-3121 Thanks!
