who have been waiting for healthcare. I apologize for starting a couple of threads on Trump's "speech" tonight but it is just unbelievable -- easily the most unhinged and creepy he's ever given. It also takes our presidency to a low that I could never have imagined.
He just claimed that he has fixed all the problems at the VA but then added a line that I (almost) couldn't believe -- that a lot of "SADISTS" work at the VA, and that they deliberately want to deny vets healthcare. Yes, he said that -- he then added that the vets would have/should have "kicked their asses" if their personal health was better. How disgusting. Just fucking disgusting words coming out of the mouth of the man who calls himself president.

Trump will did a massive ass hole that the next Democratic President will have to dig the country out of, with republicans and people like SS and Cornell West biting at that Democrat's ankles.

(5,611 posts)healthcare for vets. On purpose. Saying they need to have their asses kicked for it. Assault. Because they are "sadists." I mean how can we have a president who makes such incredibly grotesque and irresponsible statements about the employees of a federal agency?!

(10,611 posts)if he'd said that. And they'd have used their MSM megaphone to make sure their message was amplified daily.
They'll pretend Trump never said this for as long as they're able.

The seditious anti-VA organization "Concerned Veterans for America" is a Koch alliance creation. The new department Rump authorized within the VA to encourage production of stories they can develop into major scandals is a Koch alliance creation.
Of course lives are in danger, but if Rump himself dropped dead today this would continue, and more reliably and efficiently, under VP Pence, who is himself another creation of the Koch Alliance.

(58,785 posts)movements were once overlapping but essentially separate, but these days they pull together and Pence as Rump's VP is a potential major triumph for both.
Lol. For all his extreme religiosity, I wonder which side Pence would choose when it came time for them to battle for supremacy... Extremists are much better at self delusion than high cognitive or moral functioning.

(31,261 posts)Is that endangers the people that have to face real live vets and try to solve their problems. What happens if a person with PTSD and has become homicidal listens to Trump and thinks the VA purposely screwed him or her?

(14,498 posts)How on earth did you endure listening to all this? We do appreciate your updates, even as disgusting as his statements are to all of us.
This behavior is inexcusable and deserves censure by our Congress. His statements will not help the moral at the VA, and those folks need to be encouraged and supported, not insulted.
One of the many things that could happen to this not-President that would make this old man's day is for a crowd of his "supporters" at one of these rallies to boo him plum out of the house!

(5,815 posts)working as a registered nurse at the VA Hospital in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was her life's dream to be a nurse and she became an RN at age 54. She worked as a floor nurse in various Gulf Coast hospital and public health in New Orleans. When the opportunity to work at the VA came along, she jumped at the chance, motivated largely by her respect for those who served our country by serving in the military. She felt truly honored to care for them, administer their medications, oversee their recovery and stand by their side to comfort them when recovery was not to be.
After she was unable to do floor duty which involved a lot of walking, she transferred to the domicillary where the veterans who had no other place to live were cared for until they died. She loved those men and took excellent care of them. She knew the sacrifices they made for their country and did her best to make sure their last days were comfortable, safe and happy.
The idea that a man who "found a reason" not to serve in the military would have the gall to criticize those men and women (many that are veterans themselves!) who provide health care for our veterans are sadists is just too much. He should be ashamed of himself and these baseless lies should not go unchallenged.
I hope that those who know the good people who work at the VA hospitals, clinics and other facilities will speak up. Are all of them perfect? Absolutely not. But that is true of any work place. You have good dedicated, professionals and a few that are not. But the vast majority care for their patients with compassion and offer them dignity along with the medicine they need to get well. Donald tRump has no idea what he is talking about calling them sadists, but what else is new?

(5,815 posts)We moved to Texas where she finished her training as a LVN. After moving back to Mississippi a couple of years later, she learned of a program at a local Junior College where she could become an RN. So she enrolled in that. My dad became ill half way through that program and died in 8 days. She pulled herself together and finished the program, which was a good thing! It assured her of good jobs no matter where she lived. That eventually led to her working for the VA until she retired.
my mum learned to drive at age 54 and I thought that was impressive

(11,112 posts)during the Vietnam War, he very well would be in a position to give us a first-hand report of his own experience in a VA hospital.
My beloved late partner used the VA for decades. In the end, we spent nearly four years using several VA hospitals in two states for some very complicated medical procedures, including brain surgery.
Nearly everyone we met: doctors, nurses, secretaries, receptionists, janitors, technicians, cafeteria staff, was compassionate, supportive and professional. After my partner's death, I received hand-written notes from doctors and nurses who wrote about how much they cared for my partner. They talked about his courage and our relationship in such a touching way. I'll never forget how much their support meant to us.
Sadists?
With very few exceptions, the 100s of vets we met weren't into ass kicking as Trumpsuggested. They spent their time helping one another in every possible way.
Trump doesn't have what it takes to understand sacrifice in a VA hospital. Sacrifice to Trump would be something like stopping his golf game for three minutes while he called Barron to wish him Happy Birthday.

(25,926 posts)basically worked barely at all and earned tons of money. I was so flabbergasted by that statement that I didn't know how to respond except to suggest that maybe she should seek a job with the VA.
I'll admit that I know almost nothing about the VA or or those who work for it or how well they serve their patients. But from my own experience with bureaucracy in other areas, I've no doubt that the VA can often leave a lot to be desired. I also suspect that the VA may well be systematically underfunded. Like too many things inside and outside the government.
And even though I'm not a fan of all of our wars, and I am not on board with "Thank you for your service" as a knee-jerk response to anyone in uniform, I do believe strongly that we should take care of our soldiers. Explicit and implicit promises were made to them, and those promises should be kept. The VA should be funded above and before any new weapons. That's just for starters.
No one who has not served is entitled to much criticism of our soldiers. I never served, and I'm highly critical of all of our recent military incursions, but nonetheless I think we owe them a huge debt. Starting with complete and total medical care for whatever.
I'd like to see a huge cut-back in our military commitments abroad, but that's a completely separate topic.
Trump is a total idiot. What I really want to say would (as it should) invite a visit from the Secret Service, so I won't say it. Just that he's an idiot.

(9,794 posts)But the VA saved my life when "for profit" hospitals told me to get my things in order. Yesterday I had an appointment at the VA hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan, my hospital. It took almost 15 minutes to even get a parking spot it was that busy. I sit in the waiting room with other vets and their spouses or family members and we talk. All, each and every one are grateful for the care they are receiving. Many express the same sentiments that I do..." We would not be here if the VA wasn't.
Granted there were and still is problems within the system, that's true of any hospital or health care facility. There are some VA hospitals that are better than others. But it's changing for the better I can't say that about the hospitals (non VA) around me.
The doctors that are at the Ann Arbor VA come from the University of Michigan hospital one of the very best in the country. Not only the doctors but technicians, therapists, nurses and the lot of different people that work in health care. They give up the big money they could get in private practice or in for profit hospitals to do their service for those that served.

(10,419 posts)I only wish my medical care was half as good as that he receives at the VA. They don't have fancy offices with fountains and manicured greenery, but they have warm people who greet you by name (including me as a spouse) and hold the elevator door open for you.
When Mr. pig was having issues with PTSD during the Iraq War (which they told us was staggering in volume), they offered couples therapy so I could understand what he was experiencing. The only downside was sitting in the waiting room being stared down by a mounted photo of #43.

(7 posts)Every VA bill President Obama put before the congress to increase services, spending, efficiency was ignored/voted down. In any event the VA like any healthcare system has its faults but overall the employees are dedicated to veterans healthcare and do the best they can on tight budgets.
What a horrible way to describe healthcare workers or anyone for that matter.
