GOPer Joni Ernst has town hall protesters removed after crowd calls for single payer healthca

"SNIP...........

“The 750-strong crowd peppered Ernst with questions throughout the hourlong forum, and frequently punctuated her answers with boos, shouts and jeers,” The Des Moines Register reported.

“Most of the discussion centered on health care, and the Graham-Cassidy proposal that has dominated the national discussion this week,” The Register noted. “She was also asked about universal health coverage through a ‘Medicare for All’ program — an idea that won hearty cheers and applause in the room but which Ernst dismissed as ‘pie in the sky.’”

The audience of Iowa voters was so hostile that Sen. Ernst showed “evident frustration” as the crowd sided with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and single payer for health care reform, rather than the latest Trumpcare effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

“Really, if I said anything — if I said the sky was blue with regard to this health care bill — you would disagree,” Ernst claimed.

I have a relative who was in the audience. Ernst did not have protesters removed. They were removed by University Police because they were getting too close to the stage where she was sitting.

I agree with almost nothing Joni Ernst has to say, but holding her responsible for a police decision when the University Police where responsible for her safety is sloppy journalism.

There is enough to be critical of without making shit up.

This article causes me to question the veracity of Rawstory.

shouting down any and all discussion of it by experts, and anyone who dares to question the dogma.

My experience on DU has been that cheerleading has been considered the only "disussion" of it that is considered "progressive."

As though people are frightened that this legislation won't stand the actual costs and consequences being laid out by neutral experts and calling any such analysis corrupt or "GOP TALKING POINTS!!!"

Aren't Democrats the party of facts, and data over dogma? Climate scientists over politicians, etc?

staged by activists rather than a spontaneous reaction from angry constituents. The police stepped in when protesters approached the podium.

If you begin the video at around the 15:00 mark, you'll see a woman with a sign take a seat in the front row that was saved for her by a bearded guy with a sign. The bearded guy got up to join the protest, but then sat back down.

The Raw Story headline is misleading at best.

the odious idiot Joni Ernst.

My issue is with Raw Story's misleading headline.

"GOPer Joni Ernst has town hall protesters removed after crowd calls for single payer healthcare"

Ernst did not call the cops in, and, in all likelihood, it was organized protesters (rather than the crowd) that was calling for single payer.

I also wonder why Raw Story felt the need to mute the audio of the video of the event so that readers would have to adjust the volume if they wanted to hear exactly what was going on.

liberal arts in schools and undo teachers unions that protesters can go to an event and protest. Ernst is responsible for her campaign. When the republicans are insidiously conservative democrats need to up their aggression.

do not fly at all well around here, where manners are respected by the kind of people who are civically involved.

I believe this kind of protest causes a lot of harm, repelling people with the same concerns. I've been a very strong liberal and progressive since I was a child, and their complete disregard for the rights and wishes others at these meetings is very offensive to me. I try not to be embarrassed because these profoundly discourteous disrupters are not acting for me.
