(4,407 posts)Ross is going to go with an old white quarterback out of retirement rather than touch the controversy around Kaepernik...
Fuck Ross.

(16,925 posts)I'm curious about your responses to the Dolphins' posted statement.
Is it related to why Kaepernick is not being hired?
Could this be one of those situations where the person is truly NOT a quality hire but perhaps could/would/should be hired for another reason or agenda?
Not looking for flames - not sending out any - just asking for more clarification!

(11,849 posts)Considered a "Top Tier" quarterback, but considering the second string
Quarterbacks being pressed into service across the league is is absolutely certain the had he not been " black balled " for his political activism...he certainly would be starting somewhere.
The Dolphins could use him and certainly their opponents tomorrow, the NY Jets could use him as well.
In a league that tolerates and forgives drug abusers and domestic violence offenders...Colin is banished for political activism.?
If Ross or any of the other owners wants to make a significant statement of support for the first amendment rights if their employees...they can damn well hire Colin.

(9,527 posts)The problem with Kaepernick as a backup quarterback is that his play style due to not being able to read a defense and not having the patience to read through his progressions means you have to set your offense up around him. That's not what you want to do with a backup. Tim Tebow and Robert Griffin played in a similar fashion and neither of them are in the NFL.
Why would the Dolphins who have Adam Gase as their head coach go with Kaepernick when they could get Cutler who has already played reasonably well in Gase's system and in theory have their long term quarterback and just want a fill-in for this season? Why would they sign a guy who would make them greatly limit their offense, changing it in the middle of the preseason?
But like most conspiracy theories, evidence that goes against it will be ignored.
A team like Seattle would have been a far more likely landing place for Kaepernick given how Wilson plays, and they didn't want him either. Given how prominent several Seattle players like Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett have been in protesting, it's laughable to claim they didn't sign him because of the protests.
The simplest solution is that Kaepernick just isn't that good.

(11,849 posts)and the rest of the protesters would move on and so would the controversy...and by and large that worked...until the Tangerine Shartcannon opened it up again.
I guess we can agree to disagree about CK's value to the league as an athlete, but make no mistake...he is being black balled.
The level of racial injustice in this country is staggering and all of those who protest against it are justified.

(29,322 posts)Only 4 players remain that played in the Super Bowl plus recievers dropped 1 in 8 passes thrown by Kaepernick which was the highest rate in the league. That was a result of letting Crabtree go to Oakland.

(29,322 posts)In fact the only QB that had a lower YPA was Blaine Gabbert. Griffins YPA was very high his rookie year but injuries cut his career short.
His TD to Int ratio is impressive. Seattle already has Trevone Boykin so they didn't have a need for a backup.

I believe the Williams sisters are minority owners of the Dolphins. Fuck them too?

(9,527 posts)The team decided to go with a quarterback who had a good season under their head coach and already knew the offense, and wouldn't be looking for a long term solution (the Dolphins likely still think Tannehill is their quarterback of the future) over a bad quarterback who can't read a defense or his progressions that would have required revamping their offense in the middle of the preseason.
Multiple players on the Dolphins knelt last year and are still on the team. One of those players, Kenny Stills, was even given the team's award for community service. Hardly something the team would do if they felt the kneeling was a disservice.
Given how many NFL players who protested last year are still playing, it seems like quite the poor conspiracy to collude to shun out just Kaepernick. The simpler solution is that he's just not a particularly good quarterback.

(99,710 posts)I would add that Kap is the right quarterback for an an NFL team. He is just not the right quarterback for the Dolphins.

(4,897 posts)When Tannehill went down, Ross told the Dolphins coaching staff he would be open to looking at bringing in Colin Kapernick. I personally hoped they would bring in Kap as I felt he would bring a better skill set to the QB position than Cutler. Ultimately I believe it was Cutler's prior knowledge of the system Miami runs that gave him the edge over Kapernick.
The non football act that more likely weighed into the Dolphins decision to go with Cutler was not Kapernick kneeling during the National Anthem, but Kapernick's decision to wear a Fidel Castro shirt and praise the Cuban government in interviews with Miami Herald reporters last season. While views toward Cuba are changing in South Florida, you still have a percentage of the population that believes the Castro government is evil and would withhold support for any organization or person seen as being anyway supportive of Castro or the Cuban government. Given the large Cuban population in South Florida, I have zero doubt the Fidel t-shirt was a topic of conversation in the Miami front office during the decision process of who they would sign
I'm not a big Stephen Ross fan, but I commend his support for Kenny Stills and others who have sat or kneeled during the anthem.
