What you think of as the "sign of the devil" was originally invented by the Metal-singer Ronnie Dio.

He got the sign in turn from a gesture that is meant to WARD OFF evil magic.
So there you have it. Prince Harry did not make the sign of the devil when he met Melania. He tried to protect himself from evil.

(3,847 posts)Resting his hand on suit jacket isn't a sign of anything. The only thing we can tell by that picture is how unportable he was standing there.

(106,600 posts)What I would say is that this "sign of the devil" or "ward off evil with this sign" stuff is very uncharacteristic for the British upper class (Britain in general, in fact), so there's really no point in reading anything into it.

(6,843 posts)And the horn Italians wear is not a pepper. It's made to ward off malocchio as well. The corno protects you, the mano cornuto ( horned hand) gives it right back. Prince Harry was essentially putting Melania's evil back upon herself
Great isn't it! 😁

(8,631 posts)his comment was that phrase -- which immediately moved me from being depressed about the idiot ex to laughing hysterically! I think he was pointing to his head as he was saying "zucca." I think of the deplorables this way -- can't understand them otherwise.
