...I will say (without revealing the plot) that the broadcast first episode ends in a cliffhanger; to find out how it ends, you have to subscribe to the CBS streaming service.
The first hit's always free.....

(15,805 posts)As if I didn't already have enough entertainment bills each month, CBS All Access doesn't sound like much of a bargain for me. There's not many shows I watch on CBS, and I already get them thru my cable service anyway, so do I really want to binge watch old I Love Lucy episodes? Why didn't they offer this through Amazon, Hulu or Netflix? Looks like 'Star Trek: Discovery and me are not going to connect.

(3,428 posts)but I need to watch more episodes before I render judgment. I read through many Discovery tweets to see what others thought of it; more than one complained that the CBS app crashed way too often. If it was airing on a regular tv channel I would make a point of watching it, but won't be going out of my way to catch it on a streaming channel

(2,337 posts)I love Star trek, but I've got too much going on to get sucked into a series that might be garbage.

(13,583 posts)As someone else noted, it may appeal to those who like the YouTube self-funded knockoffs (i.e., Noel Shempsky types.) It looks like a video game with its heavy use of CGI and unnecessary, distracting camera motion. The plot is ridiculous.
Doug Jones is the only competent actor I saw. The rest badly need some additional time honing their craft away from a camera, perhaps work on the stage somewhere for a few years if anyone will hire them (almost all the lead actors in this series have no stage experience at all.)
Of course, an actor can do only so much. They are expected to say and do exactly what's in the script. So, if you have bad writers churning out bad writing and scripts (which seems to be the norm in movies and television these days, and this series is no exception,) even the best acting talent won't be able to do anything with it.
Anyway, I'm not going to watch any more of this series even if it were free. I'm not interested at all.

(2,640 posts)No one will watch it, and when it's inevitably cancelled, the execs will chalk it up to people not wanting more Star Trek, rather than their bone-headed marketing idea.

(100,054 posts)I'm not paying the money to subscribe to another streaming service. I want to see this Star Trek but if I really want to I'll wait for the DVD or iTunes / Google.

(38,309 posts)But I didn't much care for the reboots and I'm not going to sign up for CBS streaming. I wouldn't sign up with them if it was free.
I don't watch broadcast, cable, or satellite television because I have zero tolerance for commercials, even the "sponsored by" commercials of PBS.
I already have Netflix and that's enough, there's always something to watch there. I also occasionally rent from Redbox, and I like to look through the DVDs at thrift stores.
Maybe Discovery will be on Netflix someday.

(2,897 posts)platform, this will as well.
Outside of a few shows, I've never really gravitated towards CBS so I definitely won't be signing up for the service.
