Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsList the tropes / memes you've received in response from the NFL kerfuffle!
I've seen quite a few that fall into similar categories:
1. whataboutism- "What about black on black crime?" As if we can't chew bubble gum and walk at the same time.
2. Fallacy of relative privation- aka "What about hunger in Africa? There are much more important things.."
3. "But I've got black friends who don't like this, so.." -- honey, no. Just stop.
4. "You're turning an ally into an enemy.." -- If you're so offended by a guy kneeling for 2 minutes, you weren't much of a fucking ally, now were you?
5. "He's a millionaire!" -- Money apparently bleaches skin. Who knew!?!
6. "Protesting during the anthem means you hate the country." -- Say what, now? Like Rosa Parks was protesting public transit?
7. "They should be grateful for being successful.." -- I haven't seen this one personally, but what.the.fuck.
8. "Why do this here/now?" -- because doing nothing has really helped so far, right?
Feel free to add your own!

(12,586 posts)I don't go anywhere where tropes and/or memes are present. Oh, I guess, except for DU.

I've countered that with the true story that my dad joined the Navy in 45 and was discharged once WWII was over, but because he didn't do a full tour, he was drafted into the army during the Korean War.
"My dad served in TWO branches of the military so my opinion is worth TWICE as much as yours, and I applaud the protesters!"
No one has called me on it. They can't because doing so would be admitting to an argument from authority fallacy, and they want to keep on doing that.
