"The last straw came, today. Three students two African American, one Arab American went out (it was their turn in the rotation) and took down the flag. They were escorted back by a teacher. Did they do something wrong? I asked. No, came the answer, but, there was a crowd of cars out there watching them, and they asked me to step out with them because they were nervous."

(7,391 posts)Basic subroutines like national pride and national symbol celebration get hacked and turned into ugly, racist, warmongering, bloody, vicious bullying. I feel patriotism, still, but less in these days. I feel respect for the flag as a symbol -- it's the opening of Saving Private Ryan that gets me everytime.
But the adults described in the story are hacked. They are behaving in exactly the opposite way the pride and the symbol are supposed to be expressed. Someone has filled their head and their hearts with poison. It's a terrible burden on a nation, to have such citizens proliferate. The Worst Possible Thing.
History's pretty clear about what happens when enough of these people coordinate into critical mass. Death. Destruction. Animalistic savagery and primitive habits rise and flourish. After awhile, it's over. Society collapses. Someone else takes over.
And so it goes. We need to stop this crap cold. Loud. Louder. Loudest. Now. Right here.
