A simple question I asked: If by some reason you had to burn either the flag or the Constitution, which would you choose?
Too controversial?
I know. It's red meat but I want to hear from these folks who are outraged by NFL players taking a knee.

(3,975 posts)people are kind of babies these days.....Bill Maher used to be on regular TV......on and on.....I posted my letter to the editor on Scott Walker's FB page RE: voter fraud.........a couple years back...and one of Walker's thugs got me banned from all of Facebook for a month. (21,988 posts)One burns a flag to retire it when it has become frayed or torn. In fact, when I was a Scout leader, we would retrieve the grommets from the ashes and bury them.
Your question, though, reminds me of Penn & Teller's magic act on "The West Wing." It reflects your question:

(58,785 posts)It's not just a little ridiculous and clueless to be worshipping cloth, either. To me burning a reprint of the constitution would be the same. The choice? Both rather offensive, but someone flip a coin for me. I don't worship paper, cloth, or stone things.
It's all about the principles and structure defined in our constitution. Those are damned sacred to me, and to make burning either as a form of speech illegal would be a burning of our principle of free speech.

(1,301 posts)Personally, I respect both yet would have no problem burning either. Neither are infallible in symbolism or construct.

(2,857 posts)The most I've been banned for was 3 days so far, but it builds up so I expect more. My "crime" was telling someone I should have reported him for some harassing speech he had said earlier and that I still had screenshots of what he had said

(33,992 posts)I've alerted on a few right wing images that were pretty graphic and/or had text promoting violence. I've always gotten back the "thank you for your concern, feel free to block this user's content from your timeline if it offends you," response.
(Although I noticed that two of the posts I alerted on have actually vanished - after they told me to stop being such a baby about them.)
