I voted today (gotta love mail in ballots) and I was pleasantly surprised that 2/3 school board members I voted for are Democrats. However, they all ran unopposed.

(They don't run under a party, but as a campaign staffer, I looked them up in VAN).

the people that win state and local offices now are the ones that will be vying for governorships, US House and US Senate seats in the future.

Gov. Scott refused to reschedule. Turnout was low today and the result closer, but still a big win.

I was so nervous all day I waited until 2 AM to check the results.

Such joy and relief.

My world basically doesn't begin until 2 AM anyway, after I lived in Las Vegas for 25 years.

This is my district. I early voted for Taddeo last Friday but always doubted she would win. I posted that doubt in the Florida Forum late last week, despite the only poll showing Taddeo 4 points ahead.

Diaz plastered the neighborhoods with volunteers and signs for months. I can't begin to describe how many volunteers he had. Plus those damn signs on seemingly every corner and gas station. They obviously targeted corner homes for the signs, so people heading multiple ways would see them.

I am a registered Democrat but my sister formerly lived at this residence and is a Republican. Consequently I had the Diaz jackasses showing up at my door beginning in the spring. Even when I turned them away with insults they would still return. It was worse during primary season than recent months but still annoying as hell.

Taddeo got on the airwaves late. She was dramatically outspent by Diaz but Taddeo did use one very astute tactic in her commercials: She used nothing but year old photos of Diaz in her commercials, and in those photos Diaz always had a full beard and facial hair. It was obviously intentional. Brilliantly so. Women are not as likely to approve or trust a man with facial hair, and specifically a mustache. Jimmy the Greek Snyder used that knowledge to make a huge wager on Truman to upset Dewey in 1948. I remember posting a thread about that way back in 2002 or 2003. Now the trend is so well known you seldom see politicians with facial hair anymore.

Diaz was clean shaven this year. I'm sure he thought the switch was soon enough. Not quite pal.

He is so swarmy I'd love to punch Diaz in the face.
