Time for a new pledge of allegiance

The current false debate over kneeling during the anthem and alledgely disrespecting the flag should cause people to consider what we are valuing by that song and that symbol. Those, including the POTUS,who never served our country, apparently have no understanding of the true values America should stand for. How many times do the right wingnuts talk about how our military has fought to preserve our freedoms and then condemn those who dare exercise those freedoms?

Perhaps the Pledge should be rewritten. Instead of allegiance to a flag why not pledge allegiance to the rights that are at the core of what we claim makes us great?

"I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America, and to the Republic which protects and defends everyone, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or sexual preference, who exercises their rights there under "

"From this day on, patriotic students do say the pledge of allegiance to a flag."

"From this day on, patriotic football-players must stand on the field when the national anthem is sung."

....and it still holds true.

I <name> do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
