Okay...so there is plenty to be anxious about in the Era of Trump. The list seems endless. However, lately I have been receiving something on my TV that has added to my anxiety.
I live on the West Coast and I have Direct TV. No less than three times in the last couple of weeks, programming has been interrupted for the seldom seen Emergency Broadcast System (or what I believe they are now calling the Emergency Alert System). You know, it's the one that says "This is a test and only a test of the Emergency Alert System...etc.etc.)
After the first one a couple of weeks ago, I didn't really pay any attention in that I had not seen an EAB in many months. However, after receiving the third one this morning, I'm beginning to worry.
Could this have something to do with the rising tensions between the US and North Korea? Has anyone else noticed an increase in these broadcasting tests of the EAB?
This is becoming far too real.

(16,104 posts)The last few months really backed off, and I haven't seen any EAS alerts lately which interrupt shows and DVR recordings.
With so many disasters and emergencies, maybe they know it freakin' works?

(51,432 posts)attached. Was that you? I live in CA and just got one on MSNBC and I have been noticing more lately. They aren't weather or forest fires alerts either...just generic testing required by the station. I have COX Cable not Direct TV.

(15,805 posts)First I thought is was a hoax, maybe some Russian hackers, but at the same time I thought, oh, gawd no, Trump's launched WWIII and NK nukes are headed my way to California. I actually got an adrenalin rush and still feel my heart pounding from the fright. I had to call some of my family just to hear their voices, they're all Trumpers and wouldn't have understood my panic attack, but I still love them.

(2,404 posts)...that I had a similar reaction to the alert. I little panic attack at the thought that something horrific is about to happen. So, you are not alone.

(21,676 posts)CAme on as a National test, usually it is a local test. I'm on the East Coast.
WiffenPoof
(2,404 posts)...the alert this morning was "National" and not local. I can't remember the last time I saw a "national" alert.

(21,676 posts)I don't remember a "National Test" before. What are they setting us up for?

(24,588 posts)Came on during Rethugs tax presser. I have not seen one in years..may have just missed it. I had similar thoughts - making sure all warning systems are up and running in case they are "needed"...

It was strange because the voice was very human and commercial sounding.
