At the time I was a college student and would watch the news with others in my dorm on the TV in the lobby. It was amazing that the network's included the whole speech in the nightly news. The reaction among my peers was that he was saying what needed to said. The other comment was that he was amazement that this serious, eloquent guy was only 6 - 10 years older than we were.

I don't know if it easy to find, but the 2004 "Going Up river" puts all of that in perspective. I really wish more people would have seen that movie then as it really did show what an incredible person he was.
