That is the argument for why black football players should not be kneeling to the flag in protest of policy brutality against black people. But, look at Kimmel....he's a millionaire, yet he fought for health insurance for those that are not as fortunate. Republicans, just because a person is not in a dire situation does not mean they can't care for others who are...it's called compassion! Oh yeah, I forgot....somehow many of you republicans seem to lack that trait!

(100,062 posts)They're like Lucy and Charlie Brown kicks the football. Only difference is if republicans really were Lucy, she would spit in Charlie Brown's face after pulling the football away, and then blame the resulting back injury for being his own fault. And then taking his insurance away so he can't get treatment.

(4,483 posts)What does the amount of money they make have to do with anything--except how much money they make? It's not like owners are handing out cash to these guys out of the goodness of their hearts. Professional athletes are gifted to start with, then work like hell to improve their skills. They get paid a lot because they do things the rest of us can't do, that people are willing to pay to watch.
It isn't a "privilege" to be a professional athlete, and while luck may have something to do with their raw talent, their success is due to their hard work. Because their hard work involves a sport has nothing to do with it, either. As long as the public is willing to pay, it's a fucking job.

(182,762 posts)On average, NBA players make $5.15 million, MLB players make $3.2 million, NHL players make $2.4 million, and NFL players make $1.9 million per year, according to Forbes. But that doesn't even tell the full story.

Colin Kaepernick might not get another shot in the NFL but he'll go down in history as the athlete who raised the awareness of other athletes and the country of this issue.
Black Lives Matter of course kicked it off.

(4,407 posts)It's just an emotional trick used to keep people from looking at their country objectively and honestly. It replaces critical examination, which every institution needs to survive, with emotional tribalism that allows us to send our children (I have a 18 year old -- he's still a child in many ways), to their death upon the whim of our leaders. It curbs independent thought and encourages blind allegiance.
I'm sorry, I love some things about my country, and right now there are some things I don't love. I believe in democracy, the rule of law, human rights and mutual respect. I am grateful that my Country has come closer to those ideals then most. But if someone pisses on a flag, I say "whatever."
All these people getting upset at the "disrespect" of the flag are just worshiping a tin god.

Or maybe: Black football players should be grateful that they're paid what the market deems them to be worth instead of less than that because, well, they're not white.
