San Juan mayor tears into Trump DHS chief: 'This is not a good news story
After hearing Duke's comments, Cruz told CNN it was "irresponsible" to spin the island's devastation so positively.
Maybe from where shes standing, its a good news story, the mayor said. When youre drinking from a creek, its not a good news story. When you dont have food for a baby, its not a good news story.
Cruz said that as the devastation continues to worsen, people are scrambling to find food, especially in rural areas where supplies are not able to reach as easily.

In the worlds of government and world leadership it's dangerous, terrifying, and irresponsible. And for the GOP...it works.

(7,811 posts)the fields of marketing and advertising can be darkly effective, bordering on sociopathic. They are sciences whose effectiveness is based in psychology, brain chemistry, sociology, basic instincts, etc.. We are in a world where tens of millions of people buy unhealthy 'foods', bad beer, expensive shoes, tickets to bad movies, etc...why?
The average person has no innate defense against trained, talented sales and ad-men....even if they stick to the truth. Advertising works, right? And sometimes all it is is spreading the word about a valid idea or product. But add in a disregard for truth and you've WEAPONIZED an effective field of science for purposes of manipulation.
Combine state of the art, WEAPONIZED advertising techniques with a sociopath in position of government power and you have a real threat. An early warning came from Karl Rove and was largely ignored maybe because it was more subtle and stealthy:
"The aide said that guys like me were 'in what we call the reality-based community,' which he defined as people who 'believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.' [...] 'That's not the way the world really works anymore,' he continued. 'We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that realityjudiciously, as you willwe'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do'."
DUrs have heard the above Suskind quote a hundred times...but it's worth posting over and over in hopes that a wider audience will eventually understand what Trump is trying to do to our perceptions of reality. Lie...move on...lie, move on again while everyone is talking about the last lie....lie, move on...lie move on.

This morning we hear that the aforementioned hospital ship is "getting ready to leave for Puerto Rico." Today. They're "getting ready to leave." Isn't that special.
Infuriating is hearing reports - DAYS AGO - about how the military can parachute in some forgotten backroads empty nothing area and have it fully powered and equipped with electricity and internet and all kinds of supplies WITHIN A DAY. THIS would be a worthy effort by our military. I'd be overjoyed if my taxes were going toward that. War-making and destruction not so much. But THIS? It's worth EVERY DAMN DIME the IRS expects me to cough up every year.
As for covering the salaries of the likes of trump, Jodyanne Jerk-me-off and her "alternative facts," Michael Cohen and Stephen Miller and their schmucky little germs infesting OUR White House, Lying Sarah Liar Huckabee Liar Sanders Liar, Tom Livin'-the-High-Life-on-the-Taxpayers'-Dime Price, Steve Mnuchin and his greedy blonde arrogant money-grubbing designer-label fancy-ass trophy wife, Wilbur Bank-of-Cypress-Money-Laundry-Services Ross and the rest of the Gang from Hell, NOT SO MUCH.
