(47,248 posts)From imdb: German-American Dieter Dengler discusses his service as an American naval pilot in the Vietnam War. Dengler also revisits the sites of his capture and eventual escape from the hands of the Vietcong, recreating many events for the camera.
Most stuff by Herzog is great.
also:
Exit Through the Gift Shop (about graffiti art and Banksy)
Meru
From wiki: After attempting but failing to summit Meru in 2008, Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk return to the mountain in order to conquer its peak a 4,000 foot wall known as the "Shark's Fin". As they climb, the men also document their ascent.
Some obscure films worth a watch:
Queen Margo
It's Such a Beautiful Day
World of Tomorrow
North Face
Into the Wild
PS: Have you heard of a tv series called "Documentary Now"? It is a spoof of documentaries with Helen Mirren as host and starring Fred Armisen and Bill Hader. Very hilarious.

(30,718 posts)I was stuck in a Quonset Hut with no windows... and had to read magazines (no books allowed).
I lasted all of one week.
I was waiting for my updated security clearance. It was likely to take 3 months.

I recommend The Century of the Self,(about the invention of propaganda and advertising,) The Power of Nightmares, (about the birth of terrorism) and especially The Trap which is a pretty good take on our benighted civilization as a whole.
