(242 posts)Trump would have been sent to remedial fourth grade.

(25,855 posts)A fourth grader who is quite lazy and does only what is needed to get by, and doesn't give a flying fuck if he actually learns anything or not.
He really has that attitude. It's not acceptable in a fourth grader, and should never have been thought acceptable by millions of voters. It's not as though this behavior and this laziness wasn't fully on display the entire time he was running for President.

STAFFER: Mr. President, we need a lot of money and military people to help Puerto Rico get food and water.
DJT: Are they part of NATO? NATO should help them.
STAFFER: They are part of the United States. Puerto Rico is a territory and its people are Americans.
DJT: Seriously? It sounds foreign, like Mexico. Maybe there should be a wall there, too.
STAFFER: Mr. President, Puerto Rico is an island.
DJT: An island?
STAFFER: Yes. You know, an island. Surrounded by water. In the ocean.
DJT: If it's surrounded by water why can't they get water?
STAFFER: The ocean is made of salt water. You can't drink it.
DJT: Oh. OK, it's an island surrounded by water you can't drink. That's stupid.
STAFFER: That's the way it is. Puerto Rico is an island and it's surrounded by water. It's in the ocean. The people need food, water, electricity and medical supplies.
DJT: Why would anybody want to live on an island where you can't drink the water?
STAFFER: *sigh* They had fresh water but now they don't because the hurricane wrecked everything. There's no electricity, they can't get gas for their cars, and they're running out of food. People are getting upset and it will look bad for you if we don't do something soon.
DJT: Who did they vote for?
STAFFER: Nobody. They can't vote because Puerto Rico isn't a state.
DJT: Is that because it's an island?
STAFFER: *sigh* I have to leave now. Your press conference is about to start. Don't forget: The reason for the delays in getting help to Puerto Rico is that it's an ISLAND surrounded by WATER in the OCEAN. Can you say that for me?
DJT: Island. Water. Ocean. I'm good to go.

(19,359 posts)This might seem like a minor observation but I think it affords a valuable insight into Trump's process of thought and decision.
"You can't drive there. Puerto Rico is in the ocean. A big ocean. It's called the Atlantic."
That's a paraphrase, but it corresponds to the text of many of Trump's explanations to the camera whether the issue is health care or tax overhaul or even many smaller issues of even moderate complexity.
The reason Trump talks like a child when explaining policy is because that's how his advisors have to explain it to him.
That tells us something very important about his relationship to aides and advisors as well as about their assessment of him.
