Administration where President Clinton was on a diplomacy trip.... but came back to the US to oversee the response to the hurricane? I remember his concern and leadership....

(62,270 posts)Some 1/3rd of North Carolina is 150-200 feet above sea level. There is nothing humans can do proactively against it, if your levees aren't working, if your pumps are non-existent, if you're not controlling the flow of water, you are going to be in for a hard time for a long time.
Hurricane Matthew last year had its worst impact on life in North Carolina. It tooks weeks for the floodwaters to recede, and that's with human action to open up flow ways.

(7,952 posts)was one of the best true public servants ever. He was amazing with his competence and common sense. He was the best appointee Bill Clinton ever made.

(10,147 posts)fashionable for some folks on the left to disparage the Clinton presidency. People forget that Rs controlled the White House all but 4 years between 1969 to 1993. And Bill unseated a fairly competent incumbent at that. But now I see him called a neo-liberal or republican lite by people with very short memories or people too young to remember the 80s and 90s.
