NBA Reminds Players, Coaches Of Rule About Standing During National Anthem

By Brian Mahoney Published SEPTEMBER 30, 2017 9:53 AM

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA is recommending teams address fans or show videos expressing themes of unity before their first home games, while reminding them of the rule that players must stand for the national anthem.

A memo was sent to teams Friday, a day after Commissioner Adam Silver said he expected players would stand for the anthem .

In the memo, obtained by The Associated Press, Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum suggested teams use their opening games “to demonstrate your commitment to the NBA’s core values of equality, diversity, inclusion and serve as a unifying force in the community.”

He recommended an address by a player or coach to fans before the anthem, or a video featuring players or community leaders speaking about important issues and showing photos from past community events.

It's camera perfect and without caps or helmets. It's immediate for the fan.

And make it a protest against tRump, white supremacy and white privilege. We are winning in the court of the media and public opinion, the majority of Americans think the way we do.

As if the NBA has enough leverage to tell him that he can't protest.

what are they going to do , fire the entire team? Especially one lead by SUPERSTARS? If they fire the coach and the entire team walks, than what?

Why should any American stand for an anthem written by a slave holder set to the tune of a British drinking song? If you really think about it it's absurd, it's akin to singing along to Dixie while waving a rebel flag.
The fact that tRump inserted his white centric rascist thoughts into the conversation just threw down the gauntlet to all of us.
We must ALL protest now, we must all take a knee in league with BLM, antifa and all the others on the front lines united against our fascist enemies.
Just a few days ago there was a viral image of a brave young Black American Man thoughtfully taking a knee in Arlington Cemetary. The image I'm sure was shocking to some on the right but to those of us who really understand his motives we have a deep sense of pride and justice seeing him exercise his First Ammendment right to protest on our nations holiest ground. Grounds by the way that were built and maintained by slaves at one time, grounds that were taken as reparations for crimes against the Union, the white Union not the southern black slaves who never were made whole.
By 'Taking a knee' we can all show we are in solidarity.
Solidarity with BLM. Solidarity with the resistance against tRump. Solidarity with those who believe that we as a country must pay to make those of us still suffering from the lingering effects of slavery and institutional racism whole.
