This is the leader of FEMA spewing this nonsense about a 100 x 30 mile island.
The Pacific theatre in WWII and the Berlin Airlift comes to mind.
Seems like all Trumpers do is make excuses.

(37,748 posts)That would be moving the goalposts, as the quote in the OP never implied a measure or quotient of years necessary for success, only that it is "the most logistically challenging event the US has ever seen".
Were that measure actually relevant though, bear in mind the the Berlin Airlift began six days after the blockade had begun.

(4,940 posts)Anyone come to Southcentral/Southeastern/Southwestern Alaska during the 1964 quake?
FIRST RESPONDERS were military, had to be - population so low.
If the sTrumpet turned the military loose? Puerto Rico would have water. The assholes in "charge" only are there to protect the asshole in the Offal Orifice. (sorry, stole that one from another DU'er and would attribute if I hadn't been cooking at the time).
Cans of STERNO can be used even on wet wood to help cook a meal. HUBCAPS can be cleaned up if the food is there to cook a meal. I wish I could get someone to just pay attention to fucking ordinary motorcycle camping supplies!! You have to be minimal, DUH. INDIVIDUALS coming off ships, planes, etc. can carry this on foot!

(11,843 posts)If the cars even have wheel covers, they are likely plastic. Or slotted.
There are lots of things that can be used as make shift pots and pans, but hubcaps are not a likely source.

(4,940 posts)metal trash can lids? Grates from stoves over an outdoor pit? They work. You wouldn't believe some of the weird crap I've cooked on.

(11,843 posts)But for hubcaps, you would have to import them from Cuba.

(8,964 posts)Ignore the causes and impact of human caused greenhouse gases, and sea level rise will be measured in feet by the end of the century. Your FEMA successors will have a much easier time of it if and when denial of scientific fact is replaced with policies that improve the outlook for future generations. Right now, you and yours are not cutting it.

(14,489 posts)When a new administration comes in a wrecks the existing system that has thousands of highly qualified and experienced personnel, you're probably going to fail miserably - at least in the first year or two. And, if you don't replace them with equally qualified and experienced personnel, you will continue to fuck up.
As any experienced first-responder or military commander will tell you, a rapid efficient response to any emergency or crisis requires not only a lot of materials and equipment, but training, training and training and practice, practice and practice, AS A TEAM.
Team work starts at the top. Need I say more?
