A memory refreshed

My brother and his high school buddies liked to ride their bicycles up into the foothills west of Denver and go exploring. On one such “bike hike” they wound up climbing around above Red Rocks. They came upon a small alcove in the rock face and went inside and were amazed to find, propped up against the wall, a rifle. Their amazement became alarm because looking down from that alcove they had a clear view of the amphitheater’s stage and audience seating area. They took the rifle and turned it in to the sheriff’s office; and, yes, the sheriff shared their alarm. That was in 1962, but the chill still resonates in memory.
