If you want to fix gun laws in this country, the underlying issue is money in politics -- specifically the way the gun lobby has purchased part of the GOP agenda.

One of the quotes attributed to him boiled down to: If you can't take a lobbyist's money and then turn around and screw him, you've got no business being in politics. The most noteworthy thing to me is how little a congressional soul goes for. Many of them aren't even charging the NRA six figures for their vote.

(24,906 posts)Willie Brown, with more, shall we say, colorful language. The context was he was asked how he voted against the tobacco industry after taking contributions from them. Perhaps Willie was dressing up Unruh's quote and recycling it.
Jesse Unruh is known for the public accommodation law, which is named after him and was the model for similar laws in other states.
