In case you havent heard, Kellys new NBC morning show, which premiered last week, has been a complete and utter disaster. And insiders say the network is totally freaking out about it.
Kellys first week was plagued with all sorts of gaffes and awkward moments. When she wasnt asking Will & Grace fans if the show is what turned them gay, then she was insulting Jane Fonda by asking the Hollywood legend why shes not proud to admit that shes had plastic surgery.
Oh, then there was that little incident on Fridays episode when a cameraman accidentally stepped in front of Kellys interview with soccer star Carli Lloyd and said shit! on the air.

All the while, ratings were tanking. Kelly lost around half a million viewers within the first four episodes. She also managed to garner quite a bit of bad press along the way.
The New York Times called the show awkward and just not enjoyable. The Los Angeles Times said it was rocky, rough, and said the chilly reception should be a worrying sign for a network.
And lets not forget The Washington Post, which called Kelly nervous and awkward and compared watching the show to watching a network try to assemble its own Bride of Frankenstein, using parts of Ellen DeGeneres, Kelly Ripa and whatever else it can find.
Its like an implosion, an NBC insider tells Vanity Fair. Everyone is surprised at how quickly its gone badly. People are just like, oh my god.
Its like watching a slow-motion train wreck, another insider adds.

(58,785 posts)they no doubt know how to do it, but Zucker wants Fox's conservatives.
When you think of other cable news networks in the morning and in the evening in particular, they have partisans, says Zucker. At CNN, we have personalities.
I dont think theyre interchangeable, but they are not partisan and that is the big difference, and its the reason theres a lot of running room. Uhuh.

(25,162 posts)that's why he kept talking.
If you see the SM motioning, and there are specific motions for each situation, like a ref on a football field signaling penalties, you know to wrap it up and stop talking.
SOP in TV talk biz.
He didn't because it was just Kelly deciding to cut him off.

(5,044 posts)During a town hall Q&A type segment, Tom Brokaw was asked a question about the impact of the continuous 24 hour news cycle and, even after the question was repeated to him because he didn't hear it the 1st time, Mr. Brokaw decided to answer a completely different question that only he heard which was focused on gun control.
you can see the specific segment here:

Megyn Kelly was always a female clone of O'Reilly's Fox News shtick in the first place, she never had the empathy or talent to survive on anything more than titillation and bombast anyway. I hope everyone at NBC responsible for hiring her and inflicting her on the nation in daytime loses their job and is forced to find work in a new industry as a result.

Dustlawyer
(10,515 posts)She is put doing a warm and fuzzy show and she is the opposite of that. In addition, she is a racist as mentioned before, but she is also ignorant of many things from being in the Fox bubble. She doesn't know a big chunk of what has really happened in this country from her time at Fox, and what she does think she knows is wrong.
Topping it all off is that she is a liar. I saw one thing, on one of the late night shows where they showed clips of her giving her opinions on a variety of issue from her time on Fox and then the last clip she is attacking someone on air because they do opinions while she is a "journalists who just reports the facts" and doesn't give opinions.

(10,515 posts)Right now the uninsured are filing FEMA claims and getting the houses "demoed" (wet stuff out). Many are still waiting for $$$. The ones with insurance are filling out inventories (finishing my father-in-laws today) and waiting on the insurance companies to tell us what they are not going to pay for.
I heard a Climatologist on MSNBC say that Jefferson County, Texas (where I live) recorded the world-wide record 64 inches of rain from Harvey. Whew, I wondered since we just seemed to stay in the heaviest bands of rain day-after-day. I have never seen it rain so hard for so long. It got to be that I hated the sound of rain.
We have done this after Rita and Ike so we know the drill. The other shoe to drop that has everyone concerned is how much are our already high rates going to go up. My response is that now is not the time to discuss raising insurance rates!
Thanks for asking, what about where you are?
malaise

64inches? That's an awful lot of rain. I can imagine you screaming please make it stop. Hope you recoer fully.

(32,449 posts)pandering to the lowest common ignorant denominator just doesn't work anymore? Did NBC forget about the successes of putting daring progressive pundits on MSNBC primetime, with views seldom expressed in other tv outlets? Viewers are NOT morons especially in the age of social media and instant communication.

(5,757 posts)While both involve "interviewing," they involve totally different styles. A news show does not demand as much charisma. A morning show is more of a performance than it is an interview.
She would probably do better on a news network, such as CNN, where the discussion is usually political and serious.
