Harvest Moon October 5th, relax and enjoy the view.

I will be going to my farm.

Forget about Trump for awhile.

We will make it.

Seems like years since he took office.

I am a farmer at heart so the Harvest Moon is special moon is a little special.

Take a little quiet time.

We have a long way to go.

The stunning Harvest Moon rises Thursday, and D.C. weather is clear for skywatching

By Angela Fritz October 4 at 1:40 PM

Last year’s Harvest Moon rose up in brilliance behind the U.S. Capitol. This year’s rises Thursday at 7:04 p.m. in Washington. (Kevin Ambrose)

A sure sign that fall is here: The Harvest Moon will rise on Thursday night, and skies should be crystal clear for skywatchers and photographers.

Every full moon has a name rooted in various cultures and traditions. The Harvest Moon is the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox. Usually it occurs in September, but it can be as late as Oct. 7.

The name stems from exactly what you’d expect. Its appearance in the sky was a sign to farmers that it was time to bring in the bushels, and it allowed for a longer, brighter twilight.

Though “Harvest Moon” is the most popular name for the one that rises in October, thanks to the Celtic and Cherokee traditions, there are many more monikers for the autumn full moon:

• Hunter’s Moon (Colonial American)
• Blood Moon (Neo-pagan, Wiccan and English Medieval)
• Kindly Moon (Chinese)
• Blackberry Moon (Choctaw)
• Moon When Quilling and Beading Is Done (Dakota Sioux)
....

I have a garden to harvest yet.

We had a second crop because of the warmer weather.

One of the cows had a calf, late in the year for that.

We have chickens, free range.

Best time of the year except for the hurricanes.

Mmm, 'Blackberry Moon'!

'Moon When Quillng and Beading is Done'! So pure, simple and lovely!

We have veered too far off in this day and age. This simplicity reminds me of ancestors' simple life in Czechoslovakia. My maternal grandmother kept a flock of geese. For their feathers, not meals! My maternal grandfather had a horse whom he loved dearly but had to leave him there when he emigrated to America. He was so torn.

My first cousin, Donna, her grandparents were dairy farmers a couple towns up from us. We'd go there for picnics and I could hardly wait for the cow barn tour. I hugged them and smooched them. Yeah! I loved the 'fragrance'! Those were the days....

I can't recall the TX town or area that stages a Kolach festival annually. Those delectable yeast and fruit, cheese or nut filled pastries.
Oooh-ee! My paternal gram made them for the holidays. We lived in the apt. above her in her 3 family house. The 2nd and 3rd floor apts. were connected by a hall/stairway and we left our doors open when it was warm. When the Kolach was baking, the heavenly aroma! She'd nap them with browned butter soon after they came out of the oven.

Gee, thanx for listening to my reminiscing...

I will pick my order I placed today at the bakery.

My Grandmother made the best.

My mother side is 100 percent Czech.

Central Texas as a lot of little Czech towns.

I was wundrin' when it be.

I love the moon especially.
It draws me to itself.

I can't really ingest much more of the rubbish circling around emitted from one entity's incessant mouth, if ya know who I mean. I also will take a sabbatical of sorts. Not withdraw completely, just refrain from letting every bit of disturbing words settle on me.

Peace be unto you and yours while you break from the 'world' and enjoy one of nature's many gifts.

[Funny happening--got an email last year from a dating site I guess, asked if I wanted to meet eligible farmers in my area! Hahah. Born a city slicker but I love dairy farms, cows, goats, pigs, animals in general and diggin' in the dirt! 😛]
