"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

take a close look...just one sentence says it all. Trump don't know what it means. Hasn't got a clue. The courts have already ruled in favor of.."right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."...

Kneeling quietly while a song is played..........is to "peaceably to assemble, and petition the Government for a redress of grievances"...yes it is peaceful and hurts no one. again........................................

The courts have already ruled in favor of the peaceful protestors ...It ain't new. Been done before..and will be done again.

In other words, as we spend tax payer money on our soldiers, and support retired officers through pensions, they return the favor by sucking the oxygen from our freedom of expression.

It's harsh, I know, but I know many good people who have spent their life, from cradle to grave, working in the public sector, and specifically, in the heavily military departments. They are indoctrinated, not just by loyalty, but by paycheck. If they had liberal ideas, it could jeopardize their work status. Jesus, you know the Air Force will go so far as to interview your neighbors for information. Think about how stifling that is to develop independent, critical thinking skills.

I know these are good people. I grew up with them. But they sound like robots programmed for hate. Many became perfect vehicles for the Russian memes on Facebook.

This is why we have to remove the sacred cow perspective that the conservatives have established for the military. Right now, they are using soldiers as their emotive shields. It's wrong. We have a symbiotic relationship. Don't tread on our freedoms.

That's why perpetual war is frightening. The military can become self-sustainable if it gets a perpetual need to buy those weapons, and the more soldiers they need for their growing military, the more conservative-minded individual they can indoctrinate.

ought to be respected no matter what.

I strongly disagree with that. First off, we've had a totally volunteer army for how long? Some 40 or more years. Which means that every single person in uniform has volunteered. So I will assume that they know EXACTLY what they are getting into.

I will NOT say "Thank you for your service" to anyone under the age of 60. They volunteered. Sort of like policemen, or firemen, or nurses, or cashiers at the grocery store.

It's appalling that the idea that every single person in this country ought to be treated with dignity and respect is somehow controversial.

Under the premise that both teams are sent onto the field to line up for the patriotic flag & national anthem activities because the Military and DOD started giving the NFL millions in 2009... Well, it doesn't take too big of a leap to see how someone could contort protesting an armed-forces-sponsored activity into disrespecting the armed forces.

Not that I necessarily support that conclusion... but it's not made up either. There's a handful of articles and evidence outlining the money paid to the NFL by the military to make the sport appear more patriotic in the post-9/11 landscape and how the game operations manual changed to say all players must be present for the anthem.
