Today's evangelical 'christian' community seems insane to me. Even jerks like Torquemada or

Cromwell wouldn't recognize 21st century evangelical christianity.

You know why? Charles Koch and other radical libertarian billionaire freaks have used their very well-funded propaganda network to turn today's right-wing christians into social Darwinists.

Quite a twist for people who don't believe in evolution, eh?

practically about policies that would actually make our lives better. But, it's had some help from the Koch propaganda machine.

He's running a series on how they did a complete reversal on abortion in the 70s. He's had many posts on how GOP operatives used abortion to create a solid voting block in the south.

He's also posted a lot about how white Fundamentalism was developed to claim 'biblical' support for slavery.

A major leader in the Great Awakening in the early 1800s (Wakefield) was a slave owner and worked tirelessly in one of the southern states (Georgia?) to get approval for the immense number of slaves he needed to profit from his plantation there. IIRC Jonathan Edwards (preached famous sermon 'Sinners in tne Hands of an Angry God') owned slaves in MA (?).

His son Frank has written and talked about this a great deal. He's written a book about his childhood and youth while his father was doing this. Frank also has a blog at patheos.
