Prosecution rests it's case against NJ US Senator Bob Menendez-D.

The trial judge is considering dismissing the charges against Menendez due to a US Supreme Court unanimous decision in 2016 to overturn the bribery conviction of former VA Governor Bob McDonnell-R.
If the judge dismisses the charges-The trial is over,Menendez remains in the US Senate, runs for re-election, survives in the primary and the general election.
If the judge does not dismiss the charges, case goes to the jury. If the jury acquits-Menendez remains in the US Senate, runs for re-election, survives in the primary and the general election. If the jury convicts-Menendez appeals conviction all the way to the US Supreme Court-the US Senate votes on whether or not to expel Menendez.

Bribery under current statute requires Menendez took “official action” for something of value. Apparently official action means voting and just about nothing else. I think Dismissal.
