If Trump is supposed to be deranged, unhinged, doesn't have a clue, with dementia, a threat to humanity, etc - why is it that everyday he does just a little more to dismantle this government and our democracy. How does he get away with it? Is he smarter than we think and we are just deluding ourselves into thinking he's not? Or is there a greater power at work that is causing all this grief? Who or what is pulling Trump's strings? Why is it that he is still in power given all the crap he's pulled?
How is it that Trump gets away with all he has - since he began running for office? How is it that Harvey Weinstein was taken down by the MSM in less than a week - and all the talk of the same things that Trump did - has gone away?
I just don't get it. What is really going on here?
Can anybody shed some light on this?

(6,377 posts)You asked how he's still in power after all the crap he's pulled.
1. Republicans control the House and Senate.
2. He has a very loyal base that will not leave him, ever.

His administration is functioning as desired by the Republicans.

(13,485 posts)It seems everyone is focused on what congress is trying to pull off and it's certainly reasonable to do so. But anything congress passes can be changed. Anything the President orders can be nullified by another President, congress or the SC. That is why I think something else more grievous is in the works. Something that could make our system of government fail so the powers that be can call shots that cannot be changed.
Congress and this President are not the end game as I see it.

I know voters didn't vote for this: tax cuts for rich; getting rid of ACA; killing the EPA; privatizing public education; outlawing abortion; etc. etc. Schumer and Pelosi should use their bully pulpits and force the media to cover the institutional destruction.

(7,809 posts)Have you heard that speculation that what we think is reality is just a computer simulation? We might be some adolescent's school project, programmed not to notice the occasional glitch.
I never really believed it, but lately it's looking more like the school year is over, and the student decided to fuck with their simulation (us) by throwing in some monkey wrenches just to see how we matrix inhabitants will react. In a way, it would be better if that were the case.

They want to keep their positions and they are willing to put the country at risk to do so.
