Someone please enlighten me..

When a candidate wins, or loses... if there is any CASH left over, what happens to it? Is there a law required it be returned to the
Party of the candidate? Do they keep the money? They can't return donations can they? IF its a huge sum of money, there must be some left over... what happens to it?

Thanks!!

That was helpful.. especially:

"What candidates can’t do with leftover money is use it for personal expenses. Retiring federal lawmakers used to be able to pocket extra cash and use it for cars, vacations, clothes, pet grooming, whatever — but that changed in 1989 with the passage of the Ethics Reform Act."
