General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWe had better stop looking at the fodder thrown in the air to divert our attention from some really
important actions being taken by 45.
1. He is placing idiots to head all the agencies and the sub positions under them and our Senators are doing nothing to stop him. And they could if they were paying attention.
2.l He is nominating some of the most horrific people to courts and our Senators are doing little to stop him. They the power to stop or hold up many of these nominations.
Both these actions call for grass-root actions to educate the voters and to organize public protests against the nominations that will hurt folks in the end.
Protests may not stop a confirmation but it will call much needed attention to what and how 45 is further destroying this nation. It will also educate many sleeping voters about the fact that there is much more to an election of Senators and Representatives and a President than just flashy campaigns and their favorite single issues. Town Halls need to address the election of ALL official almost down to dog catcher but certainly the judges the people who will be appointing or nominating judges at all levels.

(9,426 posts)It is obvious tRump is not informed enough to choose these unqualified people. SOMEBODY is running the show, behind the scenes. It can not be daughter/wife empty headed Ivanka, or "smart kid" Jared. Neither of them knows enough about the players being placed into office. While tRump golfs with his BFF Liddle Lyndsey Graham, someone else is running this shitshow.

(13,760 posts)These aren't aberrant ideas of his. He's acting very efficiently as a hard-right Republican. His strings are being pulled by the same people who pull their strings: corporate interests and the wealthy.

(169,756 posts)Just like ALEC drafted draconian hard-right legislative language for bills that states could pull right off the ALEC website for tweaking and passage, so too do the GOP benefactors have "people" who draft up lists of those who they feel will advance their agenda, and they hand that list to him to submit.

(479 posts)going on. Our weak-kneed media doesn't inform them. If the big glittery conventions and conferences are going serve any good purpose at all issues and actions like this is what should be discussed at every forum. People don't know what they don't know. It's up to many of us to tell them and explain it.
I hope the Women's Conference would spend more time on stuff like this than warring against "the so-called establishment" or "the elites."
Many people criticize me for sitting at home and tweeting and posting to FB but I guarantee you that I have informed many more people about what is really going on in their lives than any recently held Conference or inflammatory Town Hall. How do I know this? At least two dozen of my contacts, including family, have told me so and they promised to send out various information and information links to their contact lists. Social Media can be used for more than one thing if we use it wisely. If we informed as many people as we take the time to smear and bash...just think what we could accomplish. Remember, the Russians did it.

(10,539 posts)The state levels know their judges who would make good liddle Federal Judges.
trump is the *perfect* person for them to implement their plan. He's a useful idiot - all he has to do is distract and wreck everything he touches.
In the end - they'll toss him aside and it'll be win-win. Who ever replaces him will look like a saint in comparison.
Yada yada about repercussions - since when have they cared? Bush, Palin - it's the *same* strategy: idiots to divert from the real show.
And the public, media, everyone *falls for it every time*!!!!

(22,651 posts)very easy for the Republicans to bash down all protests, jail people for months/years. Many people who protested the XM pipeline are still in jails , paying fines and fees.
yes, paying attention to some lunatic spamming tweets on PERSONAL TWITTER ACCOUNT is a waste of time,
its your choice to read tabloid supermarket 'stories' and follow a Lunatic on twitter. meaningless waste of your 24 hour day. It is your choice how to spend your hours and what to look at everyday.

(479 posts)and local government offices. We need ask for or demand more face time with those who serve us in government. Remember they serve us and we need to demand their time to hear us and see us.
Then the next level of action is to hold Town Hall in very red districts with truth-telling sessions, and civics education. These people need to know and understand how their government at all levels works. While some here may say the won't pay attention, there will always be one or two who will learn something and will be able to slowly but surely spread the knowledge around. This is exactly how the GOP did their work over the past 40 years while we were either sleeping or patting ourselves on our backs for our accomplishments. We can never relax our activism but our activism must be at the level of truthful, simple explanations of what is really going on in our governments right now as well as reminding those who are able to remember which party actually worked for them and why.
Our main problem is we want instant results and instant success. President Obama tried to teach us how to work toward accomplishing our goals without destroying ourselves over imperfect solutions. We must resist, but we must also INSIST. That means educating ourselves and going to the voting booths in every election that comes up.

(22,651 posts)were dragged out and thrown in jail, charged with crimes.
Of course I know the "serve Americans" is what our elected are supposed to do. But what happens is far different. People are jailed and hurt, their lives are ruined, their stuff is broken.
Our DNC, our elected Ds and large D groups must file Court cases against Republicans. Hundreds of court cases.
I know it takes time, thousands of calls and emails. My groups got to meet with Biden, he added something to a bill and 'our (republican caused) problem' got better. Another group pushed very hard with contacts, emails, faxes, calls and Salazar "resigned".
Our country can't afford to wait years while Republicans along with their Russian friends destroy Americas democracy more each month.

(988 posts)Agreed. Republicans are playing hard ball and dont care who gets in the way.
Democrats are playing the fairness gentlemanly game to do it right.
Hardball can beat doing it right. Has happened alot in human history.
We better be ready to play hard ball. That doesnt mean picking up sticks and hitting people.
It means we have to fight them in the courts. We have to fight voter suppression.
We have to fight against fake news like Fox news.
We have to destroy them in the next set of elections and set the rules straight so they cant be changed to favor one party.
We have to VOTE VOTE VOTE.
No more splits in the Democratic Party. Start getting our message out there.
