Rachel says Trump does not want to talk about what happened in Niger - all kinds of unanswered questions and he won't go there. This callousness with gold star families she says is a diversion from that. SHe gave other examples of how he is an expert of diversion, which we already knew, but she is raising a lot of questions about this that I haven't heard others asking yet.

(1,459 posts)... but until something comes up they just look like idiots. The fact that Soldiers died is not enough in itself.
The Niger FID mission, among many others in Africa, is publicly known, legal and long established.

This is black helicopter OGA tin foil shit.
It's just a fucking FID mission and I'll have words with anyone who wants to politicize these deaths just to take jabs at Trump. There's plenty for us to go after and until I see evidence otherwise I'll treat it as such.

I think in the coming days the distraction will turn to : blame ISIS

(19,131 posts)defeated Isis by himself. He actually believes this!
Trump's quote from yesterday's presser: "I totally changed rules of engagement. I totally changed our military, I totally changed the attitudes of the military and they have done a fantastic job," Trump said on "The Chris Plante Show." "ISIS is now giving up, they are giving up, there are raising their hands, they are walking off. Nobody has ever seen that before."
When asked what the difference was now, "Well, Donald Trump is President".
It doesn't look as if ISIS is throwing up their hands in surrender just yet, Donnie Dim-Wit. What an asshole.

Care to explain what is "ignorant" about it?
Baconator
(1,459 posts)... the delay in public response and his outreach to the families.
That was fucked up.
Benghazi got so much traction because State was asking for security resources that didn't make it, plus the drama that came during the attack plus the torture and death of Ambassador Stevens.
In short, there were things to point at in the top tiers of State, DoD and the administration to say "Hey, Why didn't you give X support"
What is the equivalent based on what happened in Niger? The fact they were there is not enough. We've been running that mission for years during the Obama administration as well.
Lack of support in Africa is a reality. Air, medical, fires etc... It's all much farther away than we are used to for those of us who grew up in Afghanistan and Iraq.

(21,525 posts)Sounds like the soldiers were sent out without adequate medical backup and the FRENCH had to come rescue the survivors....
WHY WAS DRUMPF not aware of this problem and why did he do nothing to fix it? Isn't he keeping track of our deployments? Isn't he asking questions about our status? Isn't he asking if they have everything they need? These soldiers did NOT

Thus, yet another unforced error by this incompetent White House.

Perhaps the permanent, professional people in the National Security offices don't want to broadcast too much joint anti-terrorism activity.

(620 posts)The story of these four soldiers was about to fade away from what little coverage it got in the first place. By responding to the accusation about what he said, all Trump did was bring more attention to what happened in Niger. The story was going away no matter what that member of Congress said.
