nothing at all to back up the nonsense Kelly spouted today:
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/national-politics/article179869321.html
It's very unlikely Rep. Wilson would have said anything so outlandish and untrue -- she had nothing to do with the funding for the building, had never claimed she did, but she did sponsor the bill to name the building after the two agents. According to the Miami Herald, Miami Republicans praised her for that. Comey praised her as well at the dedication.
Kelly claimed she referred to $20 million. The building in fact cost nearly $200 million.
But no matter what amount of money Wilson might have supposedly referred to in the boastful comments Kelly claims she made, the media would have been all over any such remarks at the time. They would not have allowed her to get away with anything like that.
Kelly either lied, knowingly and viciously, or he's been motivated by such (racist?) animus against her that he subconsciously distorted his memory of what she actually said that day.
Either way, he's contemptible for having attacked her this way.
And he has zero credibility left.

Editing to add that I've posted part of a Sun-Sentinel story in reply 2 below, as an example of how media accounts at the time differ from Kelly's lie today.

Editing again Friday morning to add that I finally found contemporaneous transcripts of what Rep. Wilson said, which bears no resemblance to what Kelly claimed she said. See this topic:

(49,028 posts)Not a line you'd see in an article about the dedication if Wilson had made the sort of remarks Kelly accused her of.
From that article:
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fl-miramar-fbi-hq-dedication-20150410-story.html
The powerful from Congress, the military and law enforcement came before an audience of 2,000 to pay tribute to Benjamin P. Grogan, 53, and Jerry L. Dove, 30, who died in a 1986 shootout where six other agents also came under fire.
-snip-
Now called the Benjamin P. Grogan and Jerry L. Dove Federal Building, U.S. Rep. Frederica S. Wilson, D-Miami, was credited with pushing naming legislation through Congress in four weeks that was signed Tuesday by President Barack Obama in time for Friday's ceremonies.
"Rep. Wilson truly did the impossible, and we are eternally grateful," FBI Director James Comey said.
-snip-
Among a bipartisan South Florida Congressional delegation were U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Carlos Curbleo, Mario Diaz-Balart and Wilson.
U.S. Marine Corps Gen. John F. Kelly, who leads the U.S. Southern Command, represented the military. From law enforcement were FBI Miami Special Agent in Charge George L. Piro and Wifredo Ferrer, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida.
Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam welcomed the audience as did the U.S. General Services Administration's acting administrator, Denise Turner Roth. Prayers were led by FBI Miami Chaplains Father James A. Quinn and Father Paul P. Wierichs and Bishop Hugh Thomas of Abundant Living Ministries in Pembroke Pines.
Grammy-winning singer Jon Secada's a cappella performance of the national anthem drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd, which contained current and former FBI special agents and members of local police departments, including Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Hollywood and the Broward Sheriff's Office. That agency sent three helicopters for a flyover salute.
The Police Pipe and Drum Corps of Florida performed for the audience and accompanied retired Special Agent Art Gill's rendition of "Amazing Grace."
In the end, the morning was all about Grogan and Dove.
Now, can anyone imagine Wilson doing the sort of boasting Kelly accused her of, in that setting, without this Sun-Sentinel reporter or anyone else in the media commenting on it?

(49,028 posts)But most would have used very limited clips, apparently not including Rep. Wilson's statements, and possibly they didn't save video of the complete ceremony.
And again, I find it hard to believe they'd have ignored any totally inappropriate, self-promoting remarks by Wilson during that solemn dedication in their stories at the time.

(2,301 posts)Seems like the rather cliche contempt of civilian leadership and politicians that self-styled "men of action" have.
But also wouldn't surprise me that her being a female POC congresswoman was a factor as well...

(49,028 posts)and there seems to be more motivating his animus toward Rep. Wilson.
I think it's partly racist, partly misogynistic...and maybe partly a priggish sense of decorum that leaves him offended by her way of dressing and her outspokenness.
His harking back to the 1950s when he believed society was better and "women were sacred" shows a reactiony attitude that tends to go with ingrained racism and sexism. The 1950s, when white women were housewives and mothers (though not at all "sacred" or even likely to be respected unless they fit into some narrowly defined and powerless role of perfect housewife and mother), and black women were often viewed by whites as "the help" -- and definitely not brave members of Congress who would dare criticize and challenge a white male president.
