All about how Trump have been drawn by cartoonists all over the world. And how he is seen..

Not very rewarding.

And, using diplomacy, to avoid getting us into war. Even President Roosevelt, our most famous wartime president, was reluctant to enter the war that was already raging in Europe. It took Pearl Harbor for him to realize he had no other choice. And it was the same for World War I.

I have President Carter's autobiography and he goes into detail about the various conflicts where he was called on to use his gifts for diplomacy to settle disputes all over the globe. He is best remembered for the Camp David Accords where he negotiated the agreement between Israel and Egypt - which still stands today. There were numerous times when both Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin were prepared to walk out, but President Carter was determined and used every bit of skill and knowledge he had to persuade them to come to an agreement - it was that important.

And there were numerous other times when he was called on by other administrations. He negotiated the agreement with North Korea on behalf of the Clinton administration that held until 2002. War has been viewed by every president as a very last resort.

But now we have Trump who has managed to insult and anger even our oldest and closest allies. Just now it's the British - but he started with China and Australia even before he took office. And he seems equally determined to provoke the North Koreans which could result in an unprecedented catastrophe that could affect entire planet!

I can't imagine how other countries view his stupidity and recklessness - which doesn't just endanger Americans, but the entire world.

...even as non American, I'm concerned by Trump.

He have no clue about any subject, not even a basic understanding of anything and when it comes to international policy, he is a genuine black hole !

The role usually played by the USA on the international stage is now dangerously vacant which any unhinged leader such as Kim Jong Un will joyfully exploits and might provoke a enormous disaster.

If you click on Bell's name at the left, it will take to the archives for his work. Same with Rowson's, which can sometimes be complex but fun to try and decipher.

I wish the American people would take more interest in overseas media, as it can be very informative and much less sensationalized. I like the editorial content both on the BBC and Guardian. Both of their travel and science sections are great, too!

Along with DU and the late night comedians, these brilliant cartoons help keep me sane these days, reassure me that I'm not alone. And one thing that I've noticed is that so much of what we read - including on DU - doesn't come from the American press. That should tell us that we need to be doing a better job, IMO, and should remind the current powers that be that we are a global community...

It's a huge relief to see and hear those who can put into words and pictures so accurately the thoughts that we have had, and the biting humor helps too. That's why I have been watching - and posting - the late night comedians. I used to tune in if I wanted to see a guest, but now I can't wait to hear the monologues. And we need the humor right now more than ever!

And it sounds like you have a great day planned. I lost my mother in 2011 so I've made it a point to reach out to my brother. I'll probably drop on on him, too...

I'm very weak with those right now, and need to re-establish some of them. I'm a firm believer that face-to-face relations is the natural human way to communicate, and it helps maintain our sanity and feelings of being emotionally connected. That's why I've refused to be on social medial, but unfortunately many that used to call or email me don't any more - because they're using social media. Grrrrr.

I guess I'm just too damned old-fashioned.

Thank you for sharing the cartoons, great ones

Are you from GB?

I post time to time about this genuine and scandalous absurdity called Brexit !!!

The best move we ever had in Europe. Of course there is still many problems and yes, we are the generations who are undergoing them, but as Rome, Europe can't be built in a day...

Then, we got Farage, Johnson, Cameron who, despite being pro-Europe, has chosen to play poker by initiating his dumb referendum...

I'll better stop here since it is not the right place to talk about Brexit. Being a strongly convinced pro European, Brexit is a subject which makes me pretty boil just by reading the word...

Between The worldwide walking disaster and Brexit, I will certainly explode any thermometer if I come to measure m temperature...

I live in the states in Kentucky, and a southern hillbilly originally from Tennessee. Got to travel on business once to Europe (Germany, near Lake Constance) and really enjoyed it.

I think as a diversion from our current train wreck congress and administration, I really enjoy reading about European politics, and particularly GB. I also enjoy the editorial, travel and science sections in the BBC and Guardian, along with a few others around the globe.

From that distance, it appears to me that the people of GB may have made one of the biggest mistakes of their history and it's (hopefully) a learning experience for us. It just never ceases to amaze me how a single public vote could carry a result of that magnitude!

Like Trump said about healthcare, "who knew it would be this complicated?". I keep reading more and more complications like Gibraltar, Ireland, and expat benefit issues. What an endless mess.

Of course, I'm being a bit hypocritical considering what's happening here after our last election!

Granted, that could be applied to Brexit, but it certainly applies no less to our November election of last year, wouldn't you say?

and I hope it wakes America up as much as Brexit has the British, but I'm not very positive at this time. Looks like we'll own the World Championship of Dumb trophy for a while, considering the global impact.

We're certainly willing to share it with the UK, though.

PS: Thanks for your periodic updates on one of our favorite people, Howard Dean.

He's one of my favorites, too. He's one of the few people on my/our wavelength with whom I can talk about mostly anything, and he'll be at least as well versed on the subject (usually better) as I am.

Another such friend, oddly enough, is my favorite Republican, Adrian Cronauer. Adrian isn't in public life, anyway, and is not today's kind of Republican in any case. No one would even have heard of him if they hadn't made that huge film about him, and even then the portrayal of him was nothing like the real man.

Not sure is it comforting but we have the same brainless idiots as yours...

Besides a pretty shameful campaign, propaganda, lies and cheap shots more like, Brittons were uninformed, many didn't even now what is EU, how much countries are members or what languages are spoken and on...

Just after the results, I have seen interviews of voters..anthology pieces...

A short list of the top :

- I didn't know my vote would count
- It is a protest vote ( ?? protest vote when answering a REFERENDUM question ?? )
- I voted but didn't know it was about leaving UE
- Because they promised the money we give to UE will back to our healthcare
- I don't know why I voted exit...
- because polish steale our jobs
- euh...what is common market ?
- we will enlight again the world as on the old good days of Empire (!!!)
- we will close our frontiers (yep, indeed...do you remember you live on a island ?)
- and on...

As far as I can remember, I never cried for an election result. Until Brexit. "unsustainable stupidity" played on a loop in my head and still are...

On the top of all the resignation cascade. A clown after the other...one because he messed up, the other because he "has done his job",...

So they messed up on all the line then...Oh sorry, was wrong, I resign...or job is done.
While they were at , they could have added : please clean our mess, the necessary is in the closet behind the kitchen...

As we say, better late than never! I somehow missed your reply.

That's an interesting review of the UK situation. Many of us here think that the Europeans do things smarter from centuries of experience, but maybe that's not always true. It appears that humans have very short memories, and our populations do not show much interest in history studies.

The list you showed could almost be duplicated for America, with just a few changes of the nouns, LOL. And, we're going through resignations and the blame-game here as well, and all the while the wealthy are making out like bandits.

It would be interesting if we could fast-forward time for around 100 years and look back at how our societies dug our way out!

I don't think we do better, perhaps there is a small difference because we have a better access to education, but I'm not sure.

Education is the key word. Education is not enough if you don't teach critical sense.

I'm interested too, to know how historians in the future, will see our era.
