"On one side there are those
who maintain that private com-
panies such as Mobil and Exxon
should finish the exploration of any
hydrocarbons found.
On the other
side are those who maintain it is
the Puerto Rican people who
should control the exploration and
exploitation of such resources.

What is at stake in this whole
discussion?"

Interesting read.
If anyone cares to discuss or dig for more on this issue, thanks.

IS THIS WHY trump WON'T HELP PUERTO RICO?
With him, I've learned he is an oppurtunist & ruthless in achieving money & power for himself & his allies, Putin & in this case rEXXON Tillerson.

Trump's selection to power was & always will be about Oil & money & power.

Like the vultures they are, the devastation in Puerto Rico & surrounding islands is ripe for the picking in the matter of Oil drilling.
This is key as we all wonder why he is weak on assistance to these people.

The Puerto Rican people wanted to decide how oil is developed & they wanted to keep the resources & $$ for their people & island development.

Mobile Exxon & others wanted it for themselves.
This devastation weakens the govt, the people's voice in this matter & opens the door for global oil vultures to step in.
They must be positively giddy!

Here's the most recent report from Dec 2017.

3. So if PR were an independent nation it would have rights

to this 5% chance of profitable oil and gas, but if it remains a territory, the rights belong to the U.S. and not PR.

Extremely interesting and thanks, Wwcd.

But I'd like an energy agent to explain whether Big Energy has any interest, and how, in abusing PR to the point that it split off. If there is business conspiracy here, big pieces are still missing.

So far I still think it's pure callous, racist, venal, right-wing nastiness. As in, what's in it for them to send tax dollars earmarked for transfer to donor pockets to PR? Don't see anything since honor, duty, and decency are not on the list.

PR voted extremely heavily Democrat in 2016, and even if 70% are white it's imagined black and brown Hispanic by many.

7. Interesting. I also cannot locate anything on the toxic dump.YET. There is the Jones Act however

The Jones Act debacle is suspicious in that profits are to be made on the backs of the already stressed country.
Trump is an ass & no doubt some backdoor deals are being made in the name of profit over people.

Is Trump Hurting Puerto Rico to Protect America’s Shipping Industry?

He also still holds that the enormous debt PR owes, must still be paid.
No debt forgiveness from trump.

I see him & a handful (putin) of profiteers simply taking advantage of a people who he has no use for, people who would stand in his way to exploit & extract more million$, should they all just go away under whatever circumstance.

There are a few reasons why Trump would like to bankrupt PR & "move on it like a ..."
If Exxon Tillerson is eyeing the oil reserves, then Putin is also.
Trump admin is ready to carve up PR and he's been handed an opportunity to weaken the govt in order to do just that.

I'll keep digging for info on the toxic dump you referred to.
There has to be some ref to it even if it was last century.
20 yr ago isn't that long a stretch..

Agree that race & PR having not voted for Trump are unfortunate conditions that play freely into his penchant for "despise & revenge", that feeds his sociopathic ego's need for power.

He belongs among the top 5 tyrants of history.
Callous, greedy, & inhumane.

6. I am reading the Shock Doctrine

and that made me think of PR - everyone is just trying to survive, so they don't have time to get in the way of the capitalists having a nice new "blank slate" that they can make money off of.

moved right along into the perpetual state of 'head in hands OMFG', should it be revealed just who the big deal makers sitting at Trump's table.

I sincerely hope he is removed from power soon by those like Meuller et al, because the more power he & his global criminal org obtains, the bigger threat he becomes to ending his seige.
Power Begats Power.
