But apparently Trump got the media involved with the Myeshia call. The media was alerted by the White House that he was calling her directly as she was traveling to Dover to see his casket. As soon as they got out of the car, the media was there at Dover with microphones in their faces. Trump expected them to confirm he personnally made the call, thus getting some good PR in the otherwise disasterous Niger story. Alas, he botched the call, and the press found Myeshia in tears and her friend, Representative Frederika Wilson, outraged at what just happened. The media thus got quite an earful from Wilson. And THAT is how this "sacred" (in Kelly's words) condolence conversation went public.
