4. You child needs a social security number to have a 529

so will they give Social Security numbers to fetuses? And will the fetus receiving a social security number be required to have a name? What if you don't know the sex yet?

I have a 529 for my daughter.... need her SSN to set it up.

As a general idea, I do not object to the idea of allowing people to set up a 529 when they find they are pregnant... but it seems like they would have to come up with a new way to establish accounts.

a 529 is a means for saving for college, but if money is taken out and not used for educational expenses there are tax consequences. i dont have much of a problem with this. If people are here worried that rich people are going to use this as a means to hide money, they may for awhile, but when taking the money out, should they do it, they would be taxed and hit with penalties.
