Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe Spanish athletes are juuuuuust a little upset about their Olympic uniforms:
They were designed by a Russian company called Bosco. They were given free to Spain's Olympic Committee.

Now that's a uniform.....for a worker at ChuckECheese.

(135,425 posts)It's nice to know we won't be the only team humiliated at the Games...!!!!
I notice they had to use mannequins as models for their "show the pieces" shot--they couldn't find three athletes willing to endure the humiliation any sooner than necessary!
Just horrible...they'd be better off asking a Project Runway first cut loser to design the garments...of course, we should talk--ours are horrid, and those hats just need to go!

BTW that print on the shirt looks like the wallpaper in a brothel. That's my day job- interior design for brothels.

(135,425 posts)That design does look like brothel wallpaper...at least the brothels I've seen in the movies!

(15,445 posts)and many inspired young designers.
Why the hell would they outsource this symbol of national pride to the Russians?
Really, what self-respecting athlete would want be seen (living or dead) in this cheap-looking kitsch?
MADem
(135,425 posts)It is awful--but ours are no better, and we had a famous "name" designer coming up with "Ugly Nazi French School Uniforms from the 1930s" as our kit, and outsourcing the production of those ghastly things to China...so all we can do is empathize with the Spanish.
Those Spanish uniforms mean just one thing--that we won't win FIRST prize for the ugliest unis!!

(9,893 posts)Nontheless, the red and yellow-gold could be used sparingly against a neutral or black background.
That's why I suggested the black top.

(1,013 posts)Not sure how. But some gifts should be accepted but that doesn't mean appreciated and
delightfully worn.
Hope they overcome this impact at the individual competitions.
They need hugs!

(7,044 posts)I will not make the observation that this outfit makes our peeps look like they are outfitted for 1% Mormon Dressage, or some godforsaken fancy-pants foreign cheese-eating surrender monkey poo-fling-O-rama, or anything like that. Those are the kinds of remarks that would come from FReepdonia or some other totalitarian armpit of the soul, and rank well below my, ahem, exalted threshold of propriety. Therefore, I will not say anything like that.

(2,104 posts)complicated that seemingly no one can assemble a few shirts, jackets, pants, spandex, hats, etc with the country's name on it except some 'designer'. Or that having a few dozen, how many athletes does each country have a coupe hundred at most? will bankrupt the country to pay for those simple classic designs, country's preferred colors plus name, and we are done.
Seriously WTF every olympics needs designer uniforms that say this isn't last years uniform and I was made by some elite designer?
Spike89
(1,569 posts)It really isn't a big deal in any way. Every 4 years the Olympics feature a parade of all the countries participating. You can buy into the Olympic ideal or not, but there is something pretty cool about gathering thousands of young people from all over the world and having a huge party around the concept of athletic competition. It is a spectacular show--costumes help make is special and fun for the participants and the folk who watch.
There are almost an infinite number of things more important than the Olympics, and the uniforms are way behind the Olympics themselves in terms of importance.
