How soon before the Batman shooter is turned into a celebrity?

He'll be studied for days, weeks, months, years. Everyone will know his name. (As I type this the President of the United States has made a statement about him.)

In my opinion, this is the main reason these shootings happen. I blame cable news.

... anyone who could do that is mentally ill. Probably not in the way the poster meant though.

I'm sure we'll get a "story" about this guy and I'm sure that there will be bits of truth here and there. But I think it would be foolish to think we'll ever really understand who someone would do something like this.

But they always feel abused by society. They feel like hopeless losers. You don't think seeing this on television gives them ideas?

What a boring world that would be.

These sorts of events are the price paid for our freedoms. We can certainly stop these sorts of events but at the cost of living in a police state.

I'm saying cable news uses these shootings as entertainment. There will be graphic specials on this guy in the guise of "need to know".

sympathy and support. That is QUITE DIFFERENT from the POTUS making a "statement about him (sic, the shooter)"

I agree that the shooter should not reap the attention that he inevitably will, as everyone tries to understand, WHY? But, I'm afraid that is inevitable. As with Columbine, I am certain our LOCAL media will highlight the VICTIMS however. Local news is typically more sensitive to the appropriate balance, than ratings-driven National media.

Do not confuse media attention as such. We will all analyze and wonder. This is mot a bad thing. We are all naturally curious. We will know his name. I don't believe anyone will be looking for an autograph.

You've never seen true crime shows where they glorify killing in exquisite detail? The killer's life story recounted? No, this guy and what he did will live forever.
