Lying. Cheating. Stealing. Shooting churches full of people. Genocide. Bribery. Collusion with an enemy. Suppressing voters. Helping the super-rich get richer. Polluting air and water.
The list goes on and on. Forever. And no crime is too heinous that its commission cannot be defended.
It is reductio ad absurdum time in America.

The bible actually says something about the danger of deceived people losing the ability to discern truth from lies, good from bad.

(479 posts)to throw at us. If nothing matters to us, to whom will it matter? My children and grandchildren matter, my entire family matters. Other people's families matter.
I don't won't despair to over take us. We have lots to matter. If you get too depressed take a look at a Syrian family and the hungry kids sorrowful mourning mothers and wives.
If I have to be alone in saying this but life matters to me. Love matters to me. Kindness matters to me. Fighting the evil foisted upon us matters to me. Getting rid of the hate matters to me.

(11,841 posts)I'm happy to see tomorrow come and hope to do the things I have planned in the near future. I'm not going to waste life by giving up. Ive had too many friends who have died way too young to do that. And many who have had health issues that prevent them from just taking a day trip.
There are many more GOOD things that happen every day, but they don't make the news because its nothing "sensational".

(217 posts)can to convene kindred spirits to help fuse love and common sense together ASAP is the way to go. Part of the reality of humanity's diminishing state-of-being (depression-induced} comes from the real awful news of the day. And, yes, fear-propagating elements work 24/7 to weight our souls down, too. Like both Nicolette Larson and Neil Young have sung: "It's Gonna Take A Lotta Love."

That, to me, ain't freedom.

Reductio ad absurdum
In logic, reductio ad absurdum (Latin for "reduction to absurdity"; or argumentum ad absurdum, "argument to absurdity" ) is a form of argument which attempts either to disprove a statement by showing it inevitably leads to a ridiculous, absurd, or impractical conclusion, or to prove one by showing that if it were not true, the result would be absurd or impossible.

(6,974 posts)This shooting, like all of them will unfortunately be forgotten next week or when tRumputin tweets something stupid, or crazy, or when thuglicans bring up the fact that the "Democrat" primary was rigged and stolen from Bernie Sanders by Hillary, Or that Hillary illegally gave our uranium to the ruskies.
It's also "helpful" if you will to the NRA that this shooter was white. thuglicans/tRumputin will come up with the excuse of "This man was suffering from very severe mental problems." SAD that it's come to this, but if this shooter had been anything other than non-white, thuglicans, tRumputin would be saying "See, EVERYBODY needs a gun to protect themselves because of this murderous thug/animal." Thug/animal means anyone other than a white person 😐
