James Holmes is an incredibly common name, if I were to guess. Just googling that name and seeing what you come up with is reckless journalism. It's about the race to be first, not the commitment to accuracy that drives so many of these news organizations, including ABC apparently.

that linked the two.

We don't know that, yet.

When I was reporting, I often was given "deep background" on a matter and then used that information to further investigate a story. Sometimes it seemed as though I pulled a link out of thin air, but it was really a trusted source who set me on the correct path.

I'll wait and reserve judgment. ABC could be wrong, in which case, a lawsuit could be pending.

ABC News speculates - is this the Colorado shooter? (Tea Party)
Last edited Fri Jul 20, 2012, 10:45 AM USA/ET - Edit history (1)

Here is "the page" --
http://denverteaparty.ning.com/profile/JimHolmes?xg_source=activity

This is his "upcoming activity" - a Fox News person lecturing about "global islamic terrorism" - sigh....
http://denverteaparty.ning.com/events/event/listUserEvents?user=0yurc5erotx1c

And I think this is supposed to be his "past" activities?
http://denverteaparty.ning.com/events/event/listArchive

Anyway, it would not be fun to be someone name "James Holmes" from "Aurora, Colorado" today.

Sympathy to the victims.
