I can't even begin to imagine the expense of doing this - six weeks before the release date!! Just like I can't even imagine where Kevin Spacey will go, from here. I think the statutes of limitations have run on most of his reported, accused sex crimes, and it's not illegal to be an obnoxious son of a bitch. Regardless, I think it's clear his Hollywood career is at an end.
LOS ANGELES In a highly unusual move, the director Ridley Scott decided on Wednesday to remove Kevin Spacey from a finished movie, All the Money in the World, and refilm scenes with a substitute actor.
It will be a race against time: Mr. Scott promised Sony Pictures Entertainment that the altered film, which will now feature Christopher Plummer in Mr. Spaceys role as the reclusive oil tycoon J. Paul Getty, will be ready in time for a scheduled release on Dec. 22.
The entertainment trade news site Deadline reported the casting change on Wednesday; it was confirmed by spokesmen for Sony and Mr. Scott.
..........
Last week, Netflix halted production of House of Cards, the popular political drama starring Mr. Spacey, and said it would abandon the series if Mr. Spacey remained involved. Netflix also shelved a nearly completed Gore Vidal biopic in which Mr. Spacey played the lead role, one involving a relationship with a young man. On Monday, Sony pulled All the Money in the World from a Los Angeles film festival.

(25,941 posts)Even those on the periphery of Hollywood productions were aware of Harvey Weinstein's crimes, and it was just accepted as business as usual. A Pandora's box of bad behavior was exposed to the light when the first allegations against Weinstein began to make news, and it's likely far from over.

He could 'retire' to some country without extradition to the U.S.

(25,941 posts)he'll still be subject to the laws of the host country, and most of those with no extradition treaty with the US take a very dim view of sexual assault - especially those involving same-sex assault. Without serious psychological help, the likelihood of repeating his behavior is great.

(26,266 posts)Every day there are new accusations against people! Sadly, I'm not surprised. This has been 'business as usual' in all sorts of industries, for far too long. I know it was in the Military and I know it was in the health insurance business where I worked.
I remember one of the times I reported harassment, in the Navy, I was told that I should be FLATTERED, because the guy (who was an NCO and my "superior" was just trying to get my attention. That was kind of the tipping point as to whether I re-enlisted, or not. And I didn't.

(2,805 posts)Casting couch references have been around longer than I have been alive. We were making priest/alter boy jokes when I was in middle school yet everyone was shocked when the accusations and lawsuits got media attention twenty years later. Spacey needs some real therapy. Doesn't really seem to be about sex with him some sort of misguided power trip, he's damaged. I don't understand why a costume designer would keep quiet. A would be star perhaps the stakes are higher but don't understand regular crew putting up with harassment.

(26,266 posts)From what I've read, his older brother and sister suffered the brunt of their father's abuse, and both seem to have gone on to avoid following in their father's footprints. Everyone adapts and processes things differently, I guess, but he had to know that what he was doing was wrong, wrong, wrong. On so many levels.

(2,805 posts)Every single woman cashier had stories of things guys said to them. I was about 20 yrs. old. I coouldn't believe it. Disgusting stuff from regular customers that I had talked with plenty of times. Didn't matter the woman's age or comeliness, apparently just constant and not just from the obvious "dirty" old men. It was considered just another day to these women. It really opened my eyes to what women endure everyday.

Scott gives his first choice for the role, the work of everyone else gets seen, and we don't have to suffer through Spacey in old age makeup.

(26,266 posts)It's pretty obvious he will never work, again. Where can he go where he won't be recognized. I can't see him pulling a 'Polanski' and getting quality work overseas. Polanski had a long running support network, overseas. Spacey has probably burned any bridges he had.
