Description of SDO: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_dominance_orientation
Quick SDO quiz: https://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2017/0814/What-s-your-social-dominance-orientation-Take-the-quiz/An-ideal-society-requires-some-groups-to-be-on-top-and-others-to-be-on-the-bottom
I scored very low in SDO, common among liberals. High-SDO is far more likely among conservatives.
So, back to my question... are there any Democrats here that score high on "Social Dominance Orientation" (SDO)? If so, what are your main reasons for supporting the Democratic party?

(14,854 posts)There's a related "personality" called "right-wing authoritarianism" (RWA) described here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_authoritarianism
It's not quite the same. High-RWA people can support established social hierarchies despite not benefiting from them.
Trump received lots of support from people who scored high in RWA:

In fact, Ive found a single statistically significant variable predicts whether a voter supports Trumpand its not race, income or education levels: Its authoritarianism.
This struck me as funny (from the Wikipedia link), but my sense of humor is dark sometimes. It was only funny to me because it confirmed my suspicions. Such an ending isn't funny at all.
In roleplaying situations, authoritarians tend to seek dominance over others by being competitive and destructive instead of cooperative. In a study by Altemeyer, 68 authoritarians played a three-hour simulation of the Earth's future entitled the Global Change Game. Unlike a comparison game played by individuals with low RWA scores, which resulted in world peace and widespread international cooperation, the simulation by authoritarians became highly militarized and eventually entered the stage of nuclear war. By the end of the high RWA game, the entire population of the earth was declared dead.

I think most Democrats would score low.
It is the foundation of our party.

(14,854 posts)There's apparently some "liberals" that score high according to what I've read, but I haven't yet found explanations for them. Curious about it.
Edit: I'm GUESSING that high-SDO Democrats might belong to "lower status" groups who see support for the party as a means to an end, with them dominating others eventually. That assumption could be totally wrong and that's a big reason why I created this thread.
