Thanks to DU'r ehrnst for starting that thread. I have been alerted by friends in Stafford that there are shenanigans going on and while I posted there, I wanted to bring it to GD for more eyes to see.
https://www.democraticunderground.com/10814469 is the thread.
I posted there this information:
There is a SERIOUS PROBLEM RIGHT NOW:
Per a friend in the city:
Stafford County Registrar Greg Riddlemoser has thrown out over 1000 absentee ballots on a technicality. He has also refused to release the names of provisional voters in defiance of the State Board of Elections order.
Washington Post has been contacted as has NBC4.
I personally reached out to Dave Wasserman at the Cook Political Report and Benjamin Tribbet -- both of whom were intrumental in making sure Herring's recount was done properly a few years ago.
If anyone knows of a lawyer, let's get a judge to clear this up!

(9,090 posts)one thing that will get high visibility and scare the crap out of the r-cons is to protest 6 limbaugh/trump/GOP radio stations by protesting the universities of Virginia Tech 5 and Virginia 1 that broadcast sports on them.
by broadcasting sports on those stations they're endorsing what the republicans are doing and have been doing. they're letting the r-cons use their mascots and brands to sell advertising and bullshit.
seeing protests to get the unis to look for apolitical alts will get GOP attention and freak them out. media will notice and advertisers will flee. without rw radio republicans have nothing.

(34,164 posts)Usually they have attorneys on call just for this kind of event. My brother in law has done this in Florida for several presidential races.
If the local Democratic Party does NOT have anyone on call, contact the ACLU!

(9,110 posts)In a recount there should be county or state DNC reps (typically a lawyer but not always) at a recount and to challenge the rejection of absentee ballots in a recount situation.
Contact the local Party office or state Party office or the national DNC office. Every race matters.
WE SHOULD FIGHT FOR EVERY SINGLE BALLOT.

(9,110 posts)Virginia law is very explicit on this: both Parties have a right to have a representative in the room during all counting, can agree/disagree with the count and can fill protest to the count or any rejection of a ballot as well as a complaint to the courts.
There is no behind closed doors bullshit in Virginia. The only stipulation being that its completely at a Partys discretion to have a representative present or not. Nothing says that they have to be there, just that they have a right to be there.

(11,591 posts)The information concerning 1000 absentee ballots being "thrown out" was apparently a misunderstanding by an elected official who is fighting for her own recount. She was either told this in error or she misinterpreted the numbers of disqualified absentee ballots. Our lawyers who have looked into this matter don't think that the information on the 1000 disqualified ballots is accurate.
There is a question about a flier that provisional voters were given that contained incorrect info. This flier informed voters that they had until noon on Friday (today) to appear at the registrar's office to validate their ballots. But today is a holiday and the office is closed. Voters have until Noon on Monday, 11/13 to verify their vote. The Registrar has been asked to show us the flier -- this might be part of the court order as well.

With a razor thin margin triggering a recount in Virginia's HD-28 election for Delegate, VoteVets is calling on the electoral board to count all military ballots. Thus far, the local electoral board has refused to count 55 military ballots. #VAPol

The status of the uncounted 55 Absentee Ballots is still not resolved. Keep fighting on this!
