(6,288 posts)C'mon Mitch, what's the matter? Isn't this is who you represent?
Is Mitch afraid of Allred, & Doug Jones' rapid rise to fame?
Uh oh!

(66,434 posts)The cowboys were all out west: Texas, Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana.
Shouldn't an Alabaman be wearing a plantation hat? He would no doubt offend ever more people that way, which is no doubt his intention.

(66,434 posts)I respect real cowboys, people who rope cattle for a living. They do a very tough, dirty, dangerous job for not a lot of money.
But poseurs? Well fuck 'em...
Ms. Toad
(34,085 posts)-daughter and granddaughter of real cowboys who did not rope cattle, and niece of a real cowboy who did. Two of them wore/wear cowboy hats.
Whether roping the cattle you're raising is involved or not, being a cowboy is very tough, dirty, dangerous work - and you are correct it pays a pittance. I remember the year I earned $18,000 a few years out of college (circa 1983) - and in a conversation with my father learned he, for the first time ever, also earned $18,000 that year after around 30 years of farming/ranching. Mom didn't work outside the home, and the two of them raised 5 kids on that income.

(6,288 posts)The rallying cry for another Dem Senate seat win, & in AL no less, has to be nonstop until the 12th.
McConnel sees the upcoming defeat .

(6,288 posts)Jones is rapidly becoming the champion of civil & human rights & his impact, should he grab the seat on Dec12, speaks for every demographic that Trump has sought to oppress.
Women at the forefront in this particular case, but be sure that with that door opened via Jones' s win, would be followed by a shattering of those floodgates by every group called out by Trump & his loyal GOP.
THAT is what America looks like & THAT is the basic core of the Democratic Party.

Sanity Claws
(21,851 posts)McConnell has zero morals or ethics. If he is saying something like this, there is some ulterior purpose involved.
I wonder McConnell is somehow responsible for the story getting out there now.
Could McConnell be doing this to send some kind of message to Trump? Like keep up your tirades against me and I will work toward getting enough votes to impeach you.

(33,982 posts)Gotta shake things up. (Won't save him)

(8,965 posts)Of course it is for Moore to withdraw and hope that Alabama can schedule a new election timeline with a new GOP candidate. Absent that, McConnell would just as soon see Moore go down to defeat. If Moore wins, he becomes a poster child for everything that is both wrong and disgusting with today's Republican party. Going into 2018, and given what just happened in last weeks' special elections, it's a recipe for disaster.
Dragonfly64
(41 posts)Governor Ivey has gone on record saying that the election date won't be changed, but there are whispers that she's getting a lot of pressure from the republican party to change the date for a new candidate. I find this infuriating because if the shoe were on the other foot and the democratic candidate was guilty of these charges there would never be the first mention of changing the date. If they change the date, any republican they run will win the seat for sure.

(30,481 posts)It's not a part of his natural instinct. He really doesn't like this guy.
VermontKevin
(1,473 posts)lying.
He doesn't give a shit about the women, but he must care about the damage Moore will do.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)And no, I don't believe that he believes the women. You are giving Mitch way too much credit. Mitch was way to quick to jump on this out of the gate.
VermontKevin
(1,473 posts)That is where the Moore accusations will hurt the entire Republican Senate.
NCTraveler
(30,481 posts)Will not help them at all. There will be no seating war. He might step down, he might not. Either way this is about something else to Mitch.

(17,865 posts)Then McConnell is toast. McConnell coming out against Moore actually makes it more likely that Moore will win.
I guess we will hear some BS about the voters of Alabama deciding when they seat Moore. Failure to seat him might destroy the Republican party.
I don't think it was smart move by McConnell to say he believed the women. The ambiguity only helped him.
Hayduke Bomgarte
(1,965 posts)I wonder who paid him to have that opinion...
ehrnst
(32,640 posts)Whether or not he "believes women" isn't really what his statement against Moore indicates.
It indicates that Moore did something that McConnell didn't like.
VermontKevin
(1,473 posts)They can all see the ads in 2018 coming.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)His public statement is designed to put a little distance between himself and the prospective newest member of his caucus. If Moore is elected, McConnell can say, "Well, I asked Roy Moore to step down, but the people of Alabama had other ideas, and I'm bound to respect the will of the people." Business as usual will then resume in the Senate.
Come on, Alabama: You can either have the damaged goods of Roy Moore, or elect a terrific candidate in Doug Jones, who's done more to bolster the respectability of your state than Roy Moore could ever hope to achieve. You don't want people snickering at your backwoods hick ways? Then don't vote for a fucking backwoods hick.

Retrograde
(10,143 posts)for himself. If Moore wins, it empowers Bannon and his followers, and Moore will be a loose cannon. If Jones wins, Mitch loses a GOP vote.
I find it hard to believe that McConnell has any sympathy for anyone other than himself or his donors.

(54,426 posts)He was not correct to say of McConnell that "He has failed conservatives "
What would been correct would have been to say "He is a failed conservative." But then, that applies to Moore as well.
