I think the guy in the back is the lookout...If he sees someone coming, he'll say, "Psst! Cheese it! Here come the feds!"

(28,493 posts)My current state of no TV has lasted nine years now, and I honestly can't imagine I'll ever have one again. I can watch most of the TV shows I want via the internet, and I simply do without the others. As it is, there are enough good shows out there (no matter your personal definition of good) that there's more to watch than any sensible person has time for.
Here's the good part. No ads. Which means the rare times I'm somewhere that has commercial TV turned on, I'm driven crazy by the ads. And the best part? No political advertisements. Makes election season much nicer.
And while I do have some gaps in my knowledge, such as not recognizing the people in the photo, overall I'm as well informed as anyone. Plus, by not having a TV turned on all day, I don't get caught up in the hype of the story of the moment. It's nice. I'd recommend to all to get rid of your TV.

(28,493 posts)comes from not being exhorted to Buy! Buy! Buy! all day long. I am retired, living on a decent, but small and fixed income. Since I don't see the ads that imply my life is worthless unless I own this or that new thing, it's not so hard to get along with what I have.
But I think the savings from not having cable or satellite service might be substantial. I do know a lot of people complain about them. I do have Netflix, both streaming and DVD, Hulu, and Amazon Prime. I watch on the computer screen that's in front of me as I type this, and since I'm the only one watching I get to sit as close as I want. Yeah. Lucky me indeed.

(39,941 posts)The two officials took a tour of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing on Wednesday to see firsthand the production of new $1 bills, the first currency that will bear their signatures.
Mnuchins signature is decidedly more legible than that of his predecessor Jacob Lew. Lew had handwriting that was so sloppy that former President Barack Obama once joked that unless he made his signature more legible, it might debase the currency.
Carranza and Mnuchin, accompanied by his wife Louise Linton, examined sheets of the $1 bills at the bureaus Washington printing plant. The currency will be shipped to Federal Reserve regional banks around the country, and the new bills are expected to go into circulation in December.
Both Treasury officials provided 10 sample signatures, from which one was chosen for government engravers.

(3,693 posts)Linton continued in her response to the critic: Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon or personal travel?! Lololol. Have you given more to the economy than me and my husband? Either as an individual earner in taxes OR in self sacrifice to your country? Im pretty sure we paid more taxes toward our day trip than you did. Pretty sure the amount we sacrifice per year is a lot more than youd be willing to sacrifice if the choice was yours.
In other words we're rich and you're not. So we're entitled.
