Maybe I was expecting too much?

I'm 71, disabled, have no transportation.
Saw a sofa they had that I wanted to buy.

They said they'd deliver it to me (2 miles) for $100 delivery fee,
but would only leave it at the entrance to my building.

I live on the 3rd floor, accessible by elevator.

I had to go elsewhere.

It is a network sort of thing. You interact w/people that live "next door" to you more or less.

I donated a bunch of stuff to a senior resource center. They came and got the stuff but this was a # of years ago.

I've gotten things off freecycle and craigslist. Sometimes, the folks that really frequent those lists are resellers. (They need a living, too .

But if you connect with a case manager they probably have places to call/or are aware of immediate needs. Especially at this time of year (there's a big push to get people housed).
